Happy to share our article now published in #psynomBRM w/@antovami.bsky.social, @frangfr.bsky.social & @davluque.bsky.social. We tested the replicability, reliability, and convergent validity of two promising paradigms for measuring habitual control.

New preprint! We (among others) have shown that the forced-response task is a promising way to study habits in the human lab. But its increasingly popular use is associated by increasing variability in task parameters and data analysis options, creating a potential “garden of forking paths"...
So… we just found out that GPT sol can complete a complex online behavioral/cognitive study producing nearly indistinguishable behavior and subjective reports… right as we are about to launch. Is this doomsday for online cognitive testing?
We are hiring a postdoc and a predoc to do research (EEG, fMRI, MVPA, RSA) on expectation and attention at the wpd.ugr.es/~humneuro/ in beautiful Granada @cimcyc.bsky.social ! People with interest + relevant experience please reach us at mruz@ugr.es

Globally, the hottest August in observed history is just about to end.
In Western Europe, the summer of 2026 (June, July, August) has been the warmest as well. Compared to this year, 1976 (the famous UK summer) and 2003 (the hottest EU summer so far) look like amateurs in terms of heat

New Blog post: Which Data Repository Should you Use?
In light of OSF closing down, I compare Zenodo, Dataverse, ResearchBox, PsychArchive, and local repositories on six important dimensions. If you want to know which to pick: It depends!
daniellakens.blogspot.com/2026/08/whic...
Over the next several months, we will phase out some popular OSF features. These changes do not affect current public content, which remains safe and accessible. We have prepared support material to help users adapt. I am very sorry for the disruption to your work. Please read this post for details.
New preprint from the lab. We think we have a solution (two, actually) to a long-standing problem in the field of response inhibition. Using two different mathematical approaches, we think we can identify long-hypothesized inhibitory 'trigger failure' trials. More in🧵 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Overreliance on habits is linked to maladaptive behaviors & clinical conditions. But are some people more habit-prone than others?
Here, we tested the temporal stability of individual differences in both habit learning & expression. Our data suggest trait-like tendencies!
osf.io/preprints/ps...
This study includes two preregistered experiments. Below are the main results from Exp 2, assessing distinct S-R habits learned 4 months apart
(E) Habit expression was time-dependent
(G) Indiv diffs were temporally stable
(H, I) Training improvement was stable & predicted later inflexibility
This one is finally published! Get a nice PDF copy from this link rdcu.be/fsEAn
Massive congratulations to all authors, specially first author @antovami.bsky.social. Enhorabuena Antonio!!!
New preprint! Habits should get stronger with more practice, right? Well, this crucial result has been difficult to reproduce in human labs. In an instant classic, de Wit (2018) showed 5 failures in obtaining more evidence of habits in conditions with more training -as compared to little trained
A little update to this thread: our preprint is now officially published in JNeuro!
We show that behavioural benefits from multisensory stimulation persist during sleep onset, even as neural dynamics change.
Huge thanks to the amazing team 🫶

🚨 New preprint 🚨
Multisensory integration is often described as basic, robust, even ✨“cognitively impenetrable” ✨
But does the brain still bind the senses when alertness drops? 😴🧠
🔗 We tested this during natural sleep onset:

We make flexible choices in new situations by knitting together information from separate relevant memories.
But what governs which memories are retrieved and when?
In a new preprint, we captured how people build decision variables from different memories by tracking their gaze on a blank screen.
Finally, our paper is out! Together with @aliciafrancomnez.bsky.social, Javier Revuelta, and @mavadillo.bsky.social, we extend hierarchical factor models for skewed RTs and task validation, now in Psychological Methods: doi.org/10.1037/met0...
Let me briefly explain what we did and why it matters!
New preprint! @martinezlopezp.bsky.social in this systematic review takes a look at the validity & reliability of current tools used for studying habits in the human lab. There are a lot of them! But studies about construct validity were sparse, while reliability analyses were almost nonexistent...
Habit research has accumulated many tasks that supposedly tap into the same construct, yet their psychometric properties are rarely examined. Here, we assess their construct validity evidence and analyze their reliability to facilitate interpretation of previous studies and guide novel research ⬇️📝

Our very first Registered Report has been published! 🎉
In short, we failed to replicate the Construal Level Theory's tenet that spatial distance promotes abstraction...
...but we provide novel evidence for a link between religiosity and abstraction.

Recent preprint with Oriel FeldmanHall and Matt Nassar, showing clear neural evidence that adolescent (13-15 yrs) social media and smartphones use are associated with blunted reward signaling in the ventral striatum, the brain's reward processing hub, and worse mental health.

Although reward signals are believed to capture attention in an inflexible and automatic fashion, in this preprint we demonstrate through three experiments and some computational modelling that verbal instructions can trigger model-based revaluation processes. osf.io/preprints/ps...

I'm so excited to share our new paper! 🎉 After ten years in the making, it's finally out in Journal of Memory and Language!

I don't know what annoys me more: 'Data upon request' or raw data shared in a format that makes reproducibility nearly impossible. At least the former doesn't waste your time 🫠
The Iowa Gambling Task is an extreme example of Jingle Fallacy and schmeasurement.
In 100 articles we found 244 different ways of scoring it, 177 were never reused. Correlations between them range -.99 to .99.
At the same time, we show meta-analyses combine these results as if they’re equivalent.
Comparing registrations to published papers is essential to research integrity - and almost no one does it routinely because it's slow, messy, and time-demanding.
RegCheck was built to help make this process easier.
Today, we launch RegCheck V2.

📜Replicating the unconscious working memory effect: a multisite Registered Report
Thank you so much to the 48 coauthors of the uWM project!🇬🇦
Two years ago, I had an idea, one that evolved over time as I kept reading and learning. Today, a major first part of that idea has just become my first PhD preprint, now publicly available on PsyArxiv.
Let me tell you a bit more about the story behind it... while I prepare the submission.
New paper just dropped about sticks and carrots in climate policy: “Policy carrots alone do not dramatically reduce future emissions. Only with policy sticks are there unambiguous signals to substantially shrink the size of incumbent fossil fuel industries.”
