Sending you all love on John Hinds Day. Hug those close to you, remember life is short, and don’t let the wankers bring you down #DeltaSeven

This week I realised what this dream had been about - the chance to inspire the Emergency Physicians of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH) at #DGINA2025. The thing is, when you sit down to try to inspire people about what you do - the vocation, not just the work - something incredible happens.

Just woke v suddenly from a dream: I was giving a presentation and - had a wardrobe fail - couldn’t find the right copy of my presentation so had to wing it through an overlong and clunky version - content wasn’t right for the audience AT ALL. Fair to call this a nightmare? @ffolliet.bsky.social

Very easy to be inspiring when one has received such inspiration Our message to those dedicating themselves to the development of emergency medicine: Make everything you do about the PATIENT, not the SPECIALTY That is the Emergency Medicine we learned from John Hinds @DocJohnsMum

Having earned a break after working their arses off preparing & running an amazing emergency medicine conference, members of ⁦‪@YoungDGINA‬⁩ ‘relax’ by meeting in a park in Cologne to practice prehospital sims 🤪 The momentum for the development of 🇩🇪 EM is now unstoppable

💯 I remember one of my old boss teaching me “don’t make <insert management or government or funding> do their rationing. If you as clinician think patient needs an icu level care that is the end of the matter”. I reflect on this a lot actually

Elite athletes build rest into their plan. That’s accepted. That’s the norm. You need that to succeed. I’m not saying I’m an elite athlete - but I need rest to succeed also. It’s like always breathing in and never breathing out. Find rest today. It’s not recommended - it’s required.

Referrer: "Do you have any ICU beds?" Me:

When I’m the on call intensivist, I make it clear to my team that if we’re called to help with critically ill patients, having no available ICU beds is irrelevant Critical Care is a People, not a Place

Off to present an emergency infant tracheotomy talk at a national ENT conference, in the paediatrics track. So I’m talking to experts in a procedure about that procedure having never done the procedure What do normal people do with their Saturdays I’d love to know

super interesting! I boiled this down and simplifed/modified it to yield the summary below. I think we all do this to some extent but maybe should be more systematic about it. (and yes I'm publically admitting that I use femoral doppler instead of full VEXUS) (emcrit.org/ibcc/shock/#...) #EMIMCC

Hyperangulated VL Technique MUST WATCH! A master class by Nick Chrimes (@chrimesy.com) in the microskills of HAVL: - Understanding the anatomical geometry of HAVL - How to use the HAVL blade - How to prep the tube - How to advance the tube & ease delivery into the trachea - How to remove the stylet

I underwent explainaesthesia this week and emerged knowing a LOT more about hyperangulated videolaryngoscopy thanks to @chrimesy.com youtu.be/aYo7kqu9QpA

HAVL+stylet supremacy! Great tips! Love to see an expert concisely explaining stuff you kinda sorta learn implicitly and add new ideas on top (Also please make sure the stylet follows the curve of the blade, makes the 3D maneuvering a whole lot easier)
