Hrmm. Been a little over a year since the last Rimworld DLC, and Ludeon is pushing new merch... seems like the last time I saw them pushing new merch was right before Odyssey. I bet we get another DLC announcement in August, for launch this fall.

There's a Starbucks licensed coffee shop near me that's been getting on my nerves for a while. I dunno if this is common, but they don't put price tags on anything in their coolers, which includes a lot of canned drinks, prepackaged foods, lunch-on-the-go type stuff.

And of course you could just say "no thanks" when you find out the price, but then you're the jackass who's holding up the line because you can't afford a sandwich.

So now there's social pressure to overspend on shitty overpriced food, and I can't help but think that's intentional. Like, someone probably did studies on whether or not it's worth it to put price tags on food.

So you grab something while you're waiting in line to pay without knowing how much it's gonna cost, and they ring you up $10 for a cold pre-packaged Hillshire Farms sandwich. Stuff that's already overpriced, but it's reaching new levels of absurdity when Subway is cheaper than Hillshire Farms.

If this is literally the same game (which it seems to be) with updated graphics, cutscenes, and a few new game modes, I'm cool with that. Starfox 64 is peak videogaming, the gameplay is still super fun to this day.

Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel like with Zero, they're just giving the original game a massive facelift. Kinda like the Metroid Prime remaster, but with an even higher degree of polish.

It took me a minute to get used to the new character designs. But they grew on me fast. The more naturalistic style has something weird and uncanny to it that differentiates them from the other designs they've had.

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up. I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

I do think the dodge mechanic needs a little more oomph, it wasn't always easy to tell that I dodged properly because the extra movement is so subtle, and it was often so close that I'd get hit even when I was sure I dodged properly.

Enemy weaknesses were often fun to exploit, my only complaint there is that the d-pad on the pro controller 2 is complete ass and would register the wrong direction on a regular basis.

Overall, I liked this game a lot, I really just have some nitpicks and gameplay elements that I wish were fleshed out just a little bit more. I didn't mind the Federation team too much, although I did turn the dialog volume down to 0 because the constant radio calls were taking me out of the game.

Also, I liked the difficulty level, pretty much. Even though I was collecting powerups at a steady pace, I died a few times, usually because I wasn't watching patterns and was trying to facetank tougher bosses and enemies. Some bosses were a little spongey, but not bad.

Another note... I get that the teleporter went crazy and sent Samus, Sylux, and a bunch of other stuff to Viewros. Seemed like Metroids are among the things that were sent over, and they merged with a handful of major bosses, according to the lore...

But then they didn't show up anywhere else, and neither did any other space pirates. Maybe the space pirates didn't survive the jump? But the Metroids did... Maybe Sylux used the Metroids to target the key-bearing monsters to try and claim the keys? That probably makes sense.

They're clearly teeing up sequels with a few teasers. The last-of-his-race alien said there are 12 more who scattered across the galaxy looking for Samus, and Sylux is now stranded on a planet full of fancy psychic alien teleportation tech that he was already starting to take control of.

Speaking of the Lamorn, their heads look an awful lot like Metroid Prime's Core. Maybe one of them is tied to Phaaze somehow? Went looking for Samus, ended up on Phaaze, merged with the planet (explaining why the planet is alive), then became Metroid Prime, or maybe just influenced its morphology?

I prefer the map in Prime 1 and the way it felt like a big interconnected world, as opposed to the hub-and-spoke style in 4. I was half expecting there to be fast travel between different spokes, at which point it would basically be Banjo Tooie in the desert.

That said, I really liked cruising around the desert, I just wanted more to do and explore on the bike. The handful of bosses that you fought on viola were pretty fun, and the post-boss lava chamber proved they could have done more.

I wanted it to be a little longer. Like, one more area, maybe two. There are a few classic upgrades we never got, and some corners of the map felt a little extra empty; maybe the scope was bigger and they scaled back?

I’ve seen so many people spreading the misinformation that PBS is shut down or is shutting down. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has been shut down and PBS has been defunded. HOWEVER!!! PBS still exists. It is more important now than ever that you donate to PBS if you can.

When @npr.org was created 55 years ago, it brought news and education to places private media often leaves behind. Now, Congress is considering a $1B cut to public broadcasting. That means fewer resources for local NPR stations and less access for rural families who rely on it most.

cnn.comWhat will happen to PBS and NPR stations if the Senate votes to claw back funding? | CNN BusinessPublic media stations are on the verge of losing the federal funding that has helped keep them on the air for decades. Here’s what that would look like.

There are other things that will be affected by this too, like emergency alert systems and children's programming. Even stations that don't rely completely on this money will see a huge impact due to the additional work required to replace the services that would be cut.

This is also one of only a few different attempts being made to de-fund public media. This is targeting the money that was already promised, but there are also plans to stop future funding, and then things like the executive order. The white house is attacking public media from every angle they can.

Y'know, I've already been holding off on getting new games at $70; my games-to-play-next list is a mile long and full of cheaper indie games that I honestly spend more time playing. Do I really need a Switch 2 at launch that badly? Even with decent disposable income for games, I'm questioning it.
