"Merz has made the mistake of trying to push what was a popular centre-right party under Angela Merkel much further to the right in an attempt to win over disgruntled voters." This never works. And seemingly politicians never learn. theconversation.com/even-if-it-d...

It's kind of extraordinary to think we'll probably live to see the arrival of free, abundant electricity. One can only hope that someone's attempting to invent artificial replacements for natural minerals necessary for batteries. As such a revolution can NOT once again come at the expense of Africa.

Asia is having its own version of the 1970s oil crises, with four-day weeks, power cuts, and flight cancellations. Sales of electric cars, scooters, and (in China) even trucks are booming. You can shred any demand forecasts that don’t factor that in: www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

What is demand starts turning down, though? Suddenly the logic flips: you want to pump as much as you can in the near future, while demand for your product is still strong. If you wait too long, you might never get to sell at all.

The IEA said it yesterday. Clearly. Restoring a meaningful share of lost production will take up to two years. Opening the strait ≠ restarting the wells. Opening the strait ≠ rebuilding the pipelines. Opening the strait ≠ fixing what got bombed. What’s the way forward ? 🧵👇

2️⃣ Mitigate hard ship while maintaining price signals ➡️ Cash Transfers to the poorest ➡️ Lower tax / prices on basic groceries and public transport ➡️ DO NOT introduce blanket fossil fuel subsidies.

3️⃣ Drastically accelerate electrification ➡️This is the first fossil fuel crises in history where green alternatives are both widely available & cheaper than maintaining the fossil status quo. ➡️This means: Build, Build, Build to electrify as fast as possible: EVs, Heat Pumps, Transmission Lines, H2..

1️⃣ Reduce Demand where it creates the least economic damage. ➡️ Replace short distance flights with rail ➡️ Support switch to public transport & cycling ➡️ Introduce speed limits
