Electrification of transport is essential to ensure Europe's energy resilience and achieve climate targets. This requires public EV charging infrastructure in the right places, at the right time and at the right prices. In this new @regassistproj.bsky.social report we present 7 key building blocks:

I completely agree. The way in which flexible energy resources respond to and then also influence prices is a very important yet under-researched topic. It's good that Lion Hirth is looking into this.

Similar ideas also floated around the EU: a sort of multiplier for the CO₂ targets (as proposed for EU-made small e-cars) if an EV would be capable of bidirectional charging / #V2G. As the article rightly points out, capabilities are not the crux; what matters is that users are able to use.

I expected more from this. ‘Right to charge’ legislation exists in various European countries and, given the previous UK strategy regarding the benefits of flexible charging for EV drivers (and the system as a whole), I had expected more focus here on the affordability of charging.

What most people don't know: when you fill up a petrol car most of the energy never moves it. Petrol car: 13–21% of the crude oil's energy reaches wheels. Electric car on today's UK grid: 43–45%. Electric car on wind+solar: 77–80%. That's why we don't need to replace fossil energy one for one.
