@foxglovelegal.bsky.social has "published a new report on Palantir’s NHS England contract. It shows that the figures used to defend the spy-tech firm’s role in the health service don’t stand up, and that ministers kept repeating them in Parliament even after the NHS had admitted as much."

Cutting doctors’ pay won’t keep them in the NHS. The DDRB must show its independence and recommend what patients and the NHS need, not what the Government is prepared to pay. Full statement: www.bma.org.uk/bma-media-ce...

On Thursday 1st October, patients, NHS workers and activists across England are taking action to say NO to Palantir in our NHS. Coordinated with activists across North and South America, Europe and Australia, we’re all showing up to demand an end to all contracts and partnerships with Palantir.

Climate change is (obviously) a public health emergency. We wrote to the Labour party in 2020 to make this case. The UK government should be working to prevent and mitigate the effects of climate change on all of us.

A real joy to meet @nataliegreenpeer.bsky.social today. Thank you for keeping up the pressure on kicking Palantir - and all the US big data tech bro companies - out the NHS. You can read the @keepournhspublic.bsky.social briefings here: keepournhspublic.com/palantir-out...

"We join health campaigners across the UK in calling for a pause in the national rollout of the Federated Data Platform. The Government should give notice by the Autumn that it will use the break clause to end the contract in February 2027; and it must prepare for an alternative now."

LMCs voted earlier this year for a ballot on switching to a 'Plan B' semi-private contract. Writing for GPonline, @drtomriddington.bsky.social warns this would risk alienating the patients GPs see every day - and urges GPs to change tack. Full story: www.gponline.com/viewpoint-pl...

If Andy Burnham wants some oven-ready reforms to social care, the campaign End Social Care Disgrace has some brilliant ideas. You can read more about their work here (with thanks to Dr Brian Fisher):

Prime minister Andy Burnham has promised fair pay for care workers and a National Care Service. New figures reveal how much carers earn.

"Far too much strategic time and effort is wasted on NHS reorganisations. Whilst we believe that the NHS does need to be reshaped we think this can be done organically as particular needs are identified. Economies of scale can be achieved, where they exist, by organisations co-operating together."

"In these circumstances it might be thought that a Labour government would prioritise public health. Instead spending on public health is falling in real terms, services for physical activity are being abandoned, and there are wide disparities in the availability of services".

Congratulations Andy. Change is coming - and with it there should be a recognition that AI is not the answer to the NHS' problems. Invest in healthcare staff, not tech bro fantasies.
The shift to a privatised 'Plan B' option for NHS General Practice "would undermine the foundation of the National Health Service in England and would exacerbate health inequalities", say MPs. An early day motion opposing any such move is gaining signatures👇

Giver and taker firms have donated £47m to political parties over 25 years. 💰 These same companies went on to score £60 BILLION in public contracts since 2015. This is everything people hate about politics. Ban firms from getting contracts with Governments they pay to elect.
MPs from different parties joined us on Tuesday as part of our drop-in session for the amendment to the 'Representation of the People Bill' proposed by @neilduncanjordan.bsky.social around 'breaking the link' between donors and contractors. Party donors should not receive government contracts.

Great to get some press today on this important survey - which will predictably and disappointingly get very little airtime. Streeting hasn't mentioned it once today... But we will.
