My college roommate was a St. X alumnus. I found this thread fascinating.

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

Utah is my adopted home state — the state in which I spent most of my working life — and one thing I learned early on was to never underestimate the power of the state's women particularly its Mormon women. If they're on your side, they'll move mountains for you, if they're on the other side,

Thread. Together with the Vanity Fair Kushner story, simply mindboggling evidence of corruption

Overall, we are seeing some very odd deal talks that are supposedly a part of ending the war in Ukraine. But in fact evidence shows these deals are structured (in the most recent case secretly until now) to financially benefit Russia or business partners of the Trump and Witkoff families.

We have to think about collapsing Trump poll numbers and Rs turning on him the same way we'd think about finally being able to corner a rabid raccoon in your garage. Good news: he's out of options. Bad news: he's a rabid raccoon.

Science has determined: - the Median Baltimore Orioles player - the Median Tampa Bay Rays player

I spoke to a college classmate at our reunion in May who runs a major data analytics lab at one of our best universities. Over 80 people worked there, until Trump pulled the plug on most of its funding. Many if not most have now gone overseas. My friend is wondering if he should too.

My classmate, who is probably one of the leading scientists in the world in his field, told me he'd spent the past 6 months reading the biographies of scientists from 1930s Germany. Whether to leave the US was not, for him, an academic question.

there's another aspect to all this: audiences—after a while, maybe even subconsciously—respect you less when they realize you're just giving them what they want. i think a result of many years on the algorithmic internet is a lot of ppl are exhausted of having themselves mirrored back all the time

Morally fucked up how the rich get rewarded for making themselves richer and the world worse. You took out student loans and are still paying them off? You're financially irresponsible. Nearly run a multibillion dollar company into the ground? Here's your hundreds of millions in severance.

An amazingly stark example of how the US economy has broken: Zaslav clears nearly a *billion* dollars amid a CEO tenure where he made basically anything he touched worse, harmed multiple prestigious brands, led huge layoffs—but delivered a corrupt merger for shareholders. variety.com/2026/tv/news...

Provocative article which bookfolk should read. But are there no uses of AI that can help #publishers do their work better? Is any use of AI in a house a crime against literature & creativity, a way to exploit publishing staffers? I wish this piece had explored that question. Answer is not simple.

Article 1 is Congress. The presidency comes second, in Article 2, and explicitly requires the president to faithfully execute the law as passed by Congress. But that structure implies that the president can break laws without consequence. Or, well, at least this one can. -Sam Alito, paraphrased

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

i also read his op ed on originalism in the WSJ and i would love to know how presidential criminal immunity emerges from the structure of the constitution, especially when the literal authors of that constitution insisted that a president could he tried and even straight up executed
