Liberals and Conservatives are rushing to pass Bill C-39 with little time to hear from Canadians and pass amendments. The bill gives cabinet ministers the power to declare entire regions of the country in which major projects can ignore virtually every environmental protection.

Bill C-39 puts foreign investors’ profits ahead of workers’ rights, environmental protections and Indigenous rights. Canada’s top scientists warn it will cause irreversible harm. So why are the Liberals limiting scrutiny instead of giving this bill the thorough review it demands?

Prime Minister Carney is granting the wishes of foreign corporations at the expense of Canadian workers, Indigenous nations, democratic accountability, and our environment. Bill C-39 is so fundamentally flawed that it cannot be fixed through amendments.

Today I introduced legislation to designate October as Hungarian Heritage Month. As we mark 70 years since the 1956 Revolution, this bill celebrates Hungarian Canadians from every generation and their many contributions to Canada’s social, economic, academic and cultural life.

x.com/thehilltimes... Being an MP is a full-time job. Period. I can’t imagine any MP truly engaged in their duty having a single minute to devote to a second job. It also leads to questions of conflict of interest & divided loyalties. IMO, secondary employment for MPs should be prohibited.

Conservatives and Liberals are working together to ram Bill C-39 through Parliament. They don’t want to hear from Canadians, and they are afraid to have their legislation scrutinized. New Democrats are standing up for Canadians whose voices are being ignored.

The Liberal government is rushing Bill C-39 through Parliament without proper scrutiny. On their special committee, they’ve limited testimonies from dissenting voices to just eight hours. It’s clear that this government doesn’t care what Canadians have to say.

This 246-page bill makes sweeping changes to labour rights, Indigenous sovereignty, and environmental protections. We need to take the time and care to do this properly.

The committee stage is vital. It is the only opportunity that stakeholders have to come in and have their say. Limiting that process is bad for democracy, it’s an insult to Canadians, and it’s part of a disturbing trend of this Liberal government.

The Liberal government is concentrating power into the hands of their cabinet ministers. With Bill C-39, they want to codify the minister’s unilateral power to end a legal strike based solely on the minister’s personal opinion.

The Carney government insists that they’ve put in “guardrails” on this power, but in reality, it lets the minister bulldoze the Charter rights of Canadian workers. It's a blatant power grab supported by the Conservatives. The NDP is urging the Liberals to abandon this draconian bill.

The Liberals are trying to sanitize their record and protect themselves from court challenges. The truth is that the Liberal government has violated workers’ constitutional right to strike 10 times in the last three years.

As NDP health critic, I met with Health Minister Marjorie Michel to push for stronger public health care, expanded pharmacare, better dental coverage & my Mental Health Parity Act. Health care must be based on need, not income or postal code. Patients before profits. That's what we're fighting for.

Stelco is laying off 500 Canadian steelworkers. The CEO of their US parent company, Cleveland-Cliffs, is a vocal Trump supporter who has been cheering on the tariffs. This is a MAGA attempt to deindustrialize Canada and harm our productive capacity.

Steel is a strategic industry that underpins our economy, our sovereignty, and our national security. It’s time for us to nationalize Stelco to protect Canadian jobs and assert control over this critical sector.

BC’s Filipino Canadian community has worked for decades to build a permanent cultural centre. That goal is now closer than ever. I secured a federal funding commitment in the budget & Premier Eby has pledged $15M. The community has led. BC has stepped up. Now Ottawa must deliver.

This afternoon, Parliament will vote for the first time on Bill C-39, which fundamentally attacks the rights of workers, Indigenous rights, and environmental protections. Yesterday, I spoke about this bill and how it undermines the constitutional right to strike.

Proud to meet with ILWU Canada President Tom Doran to discuss the Liberals' attack on the constitutional right to strike. Nation-building starts with empowering the workers who literally build our nation. The NDP will stand shoulder to shoulder with workers every step of the way.

Bank of Canada security officers have been on strike for 100+ days. The Bank has been caught twice violating federal anti-scab law and even hired Pinkertons, a contractor notorious for violent strikebreaking. PM Carney says he stands with workers. Why won't he condemn this corporate lawbreaking?

I was proud to join uOttawa NDP last night for some engaging political discussions. Our campus clubs help bring new, diverse voices into the party, and I was glad to hear their ideas and perspectives. These intelligent, progressive students give me hope for the future of the NDP and Canada.

A new PBO report confirms adding new tax brackets for the wealthiest 0.3% would raise over $1 billion a year. Instead of selling off Canada’s strategic public assets like airports, we should be asking those who have benefited most from our society to contribute their fair share.

The Liberals handed billions to Big Oil, promising this would lower gas prices. It didn't work. Canadians are now paying MORE at the pump, while oil and gas giants will rake in $90B in profits this year. The NDP says: tax windfall profits and give that money back to Canadians.

The fact Liberals expanded their ability to suppress job action by workers and to ignore environmental laws in a bill intended to attract investment is not an accident. It’s clearly Liberals caving in to the corporate sector and foreign investors’ demand.

The Liberals’ new bill allows the Minister to violate workers’ right to strike based solely on her opinion after taking into account any consideration she wants. That’s not guardrails at all - it’s pure discretion.

The right to withdraw labour is the foundation of real negotiating power for workers. By attacking that constitutional right, the Liberals are making our country weaker. New Democrats will always stand with Canadian workers.

The real nature of this government is starting to appear. The Liberals are planning to undermine collective bargaining by eliminating workers’ constitutional right to strike. Workers build this country, and they deserve fair and safe workplaces.

A strike is by definition a labour disruption. Liberals are going after the right to strike.

At the Spark Gala celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the fabulous Chinese Canadian Museum. This is a national, award-winning treasure with world-class exhibits. We need the federal government to help support it as it does other museums of national importance. Stop by and visit soon!

Vancouver’s airport - YVR - is already considered world class and contracts to manage other airports. It is admired, efficient and there have been no calls from anyone to privatize its operations. Carney’s Liberals moving to privatize are acting out of pure corporate ideology.

The Liberals’ move to privatize airport operations is a mistake. Experience shows that adding a profit element can’t help but increase costs and drive cuts to service. And any foreign ownership of critical infrastructure touching our national security is clearly unwise in these times.

Had a stimulating night talking politics with young New Democrats from SFU & UBC. Topics ranged from climate to jobs, privatization to immigration, housing to human rights… Their optimism, vision and intelligence make me very hopeful for our party’s, and country’s, future.

The Carney Liberals are pursuing straight Conservative policies: privatization, attacking labour, rolling back enviro policies, tax cuts for the wealthy, huge military spending, rolling back healthcare, bitumen pipelines… No wonder Jason Kenney’s cheering.

BREAKING: Liberals plan to sell off airport operations in major cities. Result? Higher costs for travellers, poorer service and foreign ownership of infrastructure critical to our national security. That’s what happened in places like Heathrow. Canadians did not vote for this.

As the Carney govt aims to attract foreign investment, we need to ask ourselves some important questions. What are we selling? To who? What should be owned/developed by Canadians? Canada is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Let’s make sure it’s controlled by Canadians.

So the Competition Bureau won’t investigate the Liberal government’s blatantly misleading greenwashing ads. It claims the law that applies to all Canadians doesn’t apply to government - even when engaged in commercial activity. This is perverse and unacceptable.
