I played Slay the Spire 2 for the first time last night with a group of friends. I had a blast! It was absolutely a great hang. Was the multiplayer a lesson from the boardgame adaptation, did the STS2 co-op come before the boardgame, or did both ideas come in parallel?

The fact that both are quite experienced—8 years and 12 years with CBP—is yet more evidence that CBP should be abolished and all of its agents fired. There's no way to "reform" or "retrain" that, it's just a violent gang with badges.

Saying there must be trials isn't just an emotive aspiration. Congress can: - Create a new court (complying w/ 6A jury vicinage) - Give it jurisdiction over defined category of crimes - Also create dedicated prosecutors for the same - Strip SCOTUS of appellate jurisdiction It can be done.

It’s not so much that Trump & co don’t think slavery was important, they want to remove this history precisely *because* of how important it was. They don’t want people to learn about slavery because then people would understand how it continues to shape the landscape of inequality in America today.

Stephanie Farr@farfarraway.bsky.social

Signs about the history of slavery in the U.S. and the 9 people George Washington enslaved are being removed right now at the President’s House Site in Philadelphia, across from Independence Hall, months after the Trump administration threatend to do so. How far we have not come in 250 years.

When I lecture to students about how the apparently thriving economy of the 1920s was really a house of cards just waiting to be knocked down, one of the points I stress is how much a small number of the very rich were essentially propping up consumer spending in unsustainable ways

More Perfect Union@moreperfectunion.bsky.social

The top 10% now account for nearly half of all consumer spending.

@sarahmackattack.bsky.social this feels germane to your interests. Not sure if it might help with some od your overcommitments at the moment, but there may be some fruit to pursue.

I happily donate to Wikipedia, incredible resource in this day and age especially.

Kurt Andersen@kurtandersen.bsky.social

I take Wikipedia for granted. Reading this Jimmy Wales interview reminded me in our Fantasyland age what a remarkable and important creation it is. True pillar of civilization. Runs on only $200 million a year. Requires our support. So I’m finally donating. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/18/m...

I'm an Eagle Scout (once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout). Scouting made me who I am, gave me a variety of skills, and even helped me get an employment for a few summers working at Sea Base. Scouting, at its core, isn't about being a good man. It's about being a good person.

Since January, I have asked elected officials at the state and federal levels to make an affirmative case for gov't spending. What makes transport cheaper to build? Gov't expertise. Cheaper heathcare? Medicare negotiations. Clean tech deployment? Agency staff. Effective diplomacy? Gov't capacity.

This post is unavailable.

I don't think this is completely accurate (I distinctly remember the 100K cover on the NYT), but I think the broader sentiment is correct. The US went through a genuinely traumatic national experience. It was highly politicized. We memory-holed it.

inthefade 👻@ihavethatonvinyl.com

sometimes it will just hit me that over a million americans died from covid in a short period of time and we never had a national mourning. we never collectively grieved. we never honored the dead. this feels like a failure

By rights, the excess deaths from Trump's incompetence, disinterest, and vanity should have been utterly disqualifying. He should be a pariah. But like Westworld robots, US culture and media decided, "It doesn't look like anything to me."

This is not uniquely American, although the death rates in the US were outliers despite our vaccine access. Many countries had "throw the bums out" election outcomes between 2021 and 2024 that seem to correlate to unresolved pandemic grief and resentment. But US politics has handled it terribly.

Yes, the Dem leadership in the Senate capitulated to the authoritarian regime, and they should be replaced with Dems who will fight. Schumer should immediately lose his spot as minority leader. Durbin should be pressed to resign. The health insurance spike in January will kill people. All true....

...and I am furious. But... I don't want to fall to Murc's law. The Republican elects officials are a party of arsonists and are causing the suffering. They have all three branches and are using their power to hurt people. They are callous, cruel, and ignorant.

And if there is any silver lining, we need to go to the mattresses now for Rep. Grijalva. Mike Johnson just lost his last BS excuse to delay swearing her in. Let's see what is in the Epstein files.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

This is a hill I will die on. State legislators should be full-time employees paid enough to live in their districts since that is definitional to the job. It would open the door for so many other candidates to run.

Texas lawmakers make a salary of $7200, and they only work every other year. That's why a good chunk of the legislature are lawyers, real estate agents, oil and gas executives and consultants, and small business owners

Would you like to have nursing expertise in government? How about teaching expertise or engineering expertise? What about renters? Folks who did a stint as caregivers? Professionalizing the legislature is better for democracy.

I do the same and largely ignore most other fundraising. There are a small number of exceptions for campaigns that are close to home or novel (@katmabu.bsky.social), but I like to be invested in the long-term bench building rather than leaning too hard toward individuals.

I don't think we understand just how bad the decline of the Internet is to knowledge. 3 years ago, I could perform a very basic search in any engine and get an absurd number of relevant links, research articles, etc. Today, I can perform the same search and find absolutely nothing.

Replying to @whstancil.bsky.social

There is a group of people currently in charge of this country who cannot be allowed to rule us under any circumstance, and who must be dealt with in ways that ensure they can never, as a class, return to power. Their enablers need to be similarly punished. Consequences FIRST, reconciliation later.

It would also be great if social media sites had a feature in which they posted something on the top of the site saying, "It looks like you haven't been on social media for a while. There's been a thing. Do you need help understanding it?"

Becoming increasingly clear we’re gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.

Ex-farm worker here. We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing. Not true AT ALL. Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are. The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour. At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.

10,000 people signed up to run for office in the two weeks after Mamdani won. Whether the party likes it or not, a new generation of leaders is stepping up.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

We need a new generation of leaders who are the voices of democracy, freedom, social justice, & the rule of law.  A new generation that gives meaning to the “we” in “we the people.” Instead of fretting over Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Party should embrace him as the future.
