Made a tool for customizing a map view to then print coloring pages.

My kid is obsessed with extreme weather events, biomes, and geography. They like creating map visualizations and I am often trying to find good coloring pages of specific places and all the sites are full of ads or not quite right.

I feel like all Opus 5.5 did with motion graphics was seriously degrade their impact and effectiveness. Impressive for sure, but timelines now just look like an endless list of Christmas movie posters. They all kind of feel the same and I end up not want to watch any of them.

More accurately like endless Christmas movie trailers all playing at the same time.

A lot are like the old Guess Who commercials as well. Representing the product in an artificial way. Does the app really do/behave like that? Probably not.

I heard SPAs are the best way to guide devs in to the pit of success… 🤔

This happens almost every time when I use ChatGPT. Hydration is hard but if you allow inputs "before JavaScript" you better get it right! If you can’t, just don’t allow me to input anything. I’ll take that loading spinner over this experience all day any day ...

I see so they're able to start inputting text then the ROOT of the app (JavaScript) is like… no no… I am at the ROOT now!

So play around with it. Let me know what I am getting wrong. I might fix it.

Frontier lab ships slop. Addresses with more slop. Can your team afford this cycle indefinitely? All I see in this article is waste and toxic positivity.

Very quick and dirty Jev test for hiring bias. One resume for a Wall Street job; asked whether the applicant should get a first-round interview. 76 evaluations, changing only the first name. 19 of each: White-associated men/women, Black-associated men/women. console.typesafe.ai/playground?s...

Somehow Jev has not yet triggered much discussion of cheap, low-latency, general-purpose classification as infrastructure for targeted oppression.

So LG TVs… Is it not enough to throw it on a locked down vlan or point it to a pi-hole?

Sad, but try seeding your team's agent context with instructions to pause and engage with humans more. The "come up for air" clause.

Why is it always "switching to this new CSS framework saves you 20kb of CSS" and never "switching away from React saves you 200kb of JavaScript"?

Good news y'all. Labor Day Sales are extended through today! They do it every year, but you just never know.

I think the experience teams are having working with agents is a mixed bag, but mostly negative and existential. It definitely sucks, but likely the world you're stuck in unless you want to find another job in a diminishing pool of companies that work more traditionally.

So I still review code my own code because I care. I'll retroactively review others if something jumps out to me after a quick scan. I spend more time measuring and poking at what's generated than authoring it. I can still scratch that itch in other ways.

Still kind of a net bummer, but finding joy and fulfillment where I can.

Run through the problem myself. How would I design or approach the problem? Get the broad strokes in and improve my understanding. That feeds in to what gets automated down stream.

Explore other models. Muse Spark 1.3 (FREE!) has pleasantly surprised me for smaller scopes. It's *fast* and fairly accurate. Great for prototyping.

PRs, commits, design docs, logs are all context. Let my agents eat it up. Ask your agents if the PR matches up against your mental model. Find gaps not nits.

Couple things that jump out to me: - Reviewing slop sucks (doubly so for large PRs) - Less human collaboration/thinking - Authoring code was actually fun - More changes compounds everything Some things that have helped me:

Giving in to the volume of PRs and code changes. Let agents review for bugs, correctness and build tools to help verify it works as expected. Tests are one, but you can also have agents build one-off harnesses, run fuzz tests… things you normally wouldn't have time for.
