I like reading quick thoughts and opinions from friends on the games they play, and I'll do another thread this year. It also helps me be more active on here. 2026 Games Completed Thread:

The simple answer is to bookmark some sites that have hand & human-crafted, in-depth guides. Lengthy, sometimes singular user-respecting pages that evoke the hardcover guidebooks & greatest gamefaqs txts of the past, not 300 word bullshit targeted at google trends. For a start; @rpgsite.net

"These tools have made it very easy for bad actors to crowd out good information..." AI fan wikis riddled with errors are muddying the waters of an already contested part of games culture www.eurogamer.net/ai-fan-wikis...

SaGa-heads already know this, but even though RS3R *looks* just like RS2R, it's structurally very different. More of an open world, no inheritance systems, & even more open-ended in what direction you proceed through the story. It really encapsulates the spontaneous 'create your own SaGa' tagline.

I once saw RS3 described as "JRPG Skyrim" which ...... while shallow and oversimplified ... isn't exactly incorrect. Anyways, RS3 is one of the best games in the series, the remake of RS2 was excellent, so I'm super excited for this. I wonder if it's feasible to build a full team of monks again.

I worked with *several* Arab scientists while getting my materials science PhD.

November is looking pretty thin as far as RPG releases go, but that'll give me time to catch up on the deluge of games from the past few months. Plus, we might have a nice surprise on RPG Site as we celebrate 20 years..

In the meantime, we have a reader survey currently open -> bsky.app/profile/rpgs...

Here's our full walkthrough (and other pages) on Final Fantasy Resonance. Hope you find it useful!

RPG Site@rpgsite.net

Picking up Final Fantasy Resonance? We have a 100% bullet-point walkthrough and other guide pages available for those looking for some assistance in this new adventure: https://www.rpgsite.net/games/2841-final-fantasy-resonance/guides

I hope this comes across the right way, but next year's discussions around Exodus (a game with explicit Mass Effect DNA) and The Expanse (a game with explicit Mass Effect inspiration) just gained some weight and complexity in where they stand.

It feels like the legacy western RPG developers remaining are all on gigantic sandbox games or service RPGs.

EA is shutting down BioWare. The next Mass Effect has been canceled: https://www.rpgsite.net/news/21611-bioware-shutting-down-ea-job-cuts-mass-effect-canceled

My over-simplified take is that players who gravitate towards mechanics/systems will enjoy Final Fantasy Resonance more than those who gravitate towards narrative. For a more comprehensive overview, here's Hayes' review ->

RPG Site@rpgsite.net

Final Fantasy Resonance sports one of the best turn-based combat systems seen in years, bolstered by lovable characters and a genuinely stunning presentation. But it's slightly held back from full greatness by a lackluster story and odd pacing. Our review: www.rpgsite.net/review/21594...

I got to review Final Fantasy Resonance - and ultimately great little RPG that builds a fascinating foundation for the future. One of the best turn-based combat systems in years. But it lacks the thematic core that make the best Final Fantasy games timeless.

One thing I feel like pointing out is that this indie RPG, as well as its predecessor, were supported through government funding such as German Games Fund Germany and multiple federal ministries. Just an example of how real policies can tangibly affect dev. Indie games don't just come from nowhere.

Deck13 and Just2D have announced Drova II - Torn Lands, a sequel to Drova: Forsaken Kin. It is set to release in 2027 for consoles and PC: https://www.rpgsite.net/news/21577-drova-ii-torn-lands-announced-for-pc-consoles-set-to-release-in-2027

If you are wondering why we are not covering your demo, consider that the sheer number of them is overwhelming.

Next Fest is back, with a new and improved UI for all your browsing needs! From now until October 26th, check out thousands (literally) of demos for games of all types - from frantic cooking typers to frozen railway games, there's something for everyone. store.steampowered.com/sale/nextfest

I had less time to put this together compared to some other walkthroughs I've done, but hopefully this is helpful to those checking out the remaster. Will be polished up a bit in the coming days.

Playing Tales of Eternia Remastered? We have a step-by-step bullet-point walkthrough to help you get all items, monsters, Titles, and achievements: https://www.rpgsite.net/guide/21580-tales-eternia-remastered-walkthrough-100-items-monsters-titles-all-achievements-step-by-step-guide

It looks like I'll finish 2026 with only three reviews, and only one of them scored. I've definitely focused on other types of coverage and site facilitation this year.

Not sure how much interest there is in this but I'll have a walkthrough posted later today or tomorrow. One thing I realized playing through Tales of Eternia is that it in not very well documented lol.

Tales of Eternia Remastered gives an overlooked entry in the franchise a new lease on life with a comprehensive and thoughtful re-release: https://www.rpgsite.net/feature/21563-tales-eternia-remastered-review

This is less a review of Tales of Eternia and more of a commendation to Bandai Namco's stewardship of its franchise catalog in giving an overlooked entry a second chance it deserves.

I also want to point out, as I know some curious about it, the new English voice cast for Tales of Eternia Remastered unfortunately isn't credited, but the new English localization team appears to be.

Dark Arisen is more Dragon’s Dogma (mostly in a good way). But i also think the frigid wastes of Norgan are my favorite area in the game. A steong reminder of how good this game is at making you grapple with the sheer environment www.cgmagonline.com/review/game/...

cgmagonline.comDragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen (PS5) ReviewDragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is a fairly by-the-numbers expansion, but it still has all the challenge and wondrous exploration that made the original game so special.

I found Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen to feel a little bit plain, especially compared to something like Bitterblack Isle in the original. Even so, it was fun to jump back into the game two years later to power up my guys and tackle a new region. Here's James' review ->

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is a very good expansion, even if James wishes it adhered more to what he loved about the original game. Our review: https://www.rpgsite.net/review/21529-dragons-dogma-2-dark-arisen-review

I remember when 2 million was a high water mark.

A great, 6 million pageview month for @rpgsite.net in September. Really proud of the team, and in October we will continue to make hay while the sun shines until November when some game we don't really cover obliterates the schedule and leaves us nothing to cover (some cool features planned though!)

Apologies if I haven't replied to your Steam Next Fest email, we've gotten ~50 in the few days and it can be difficult to wade through the flood.

I posted the first version of our 2027 RPG release date list, continuing a project I've done for years. It's a lot of work to put these together, but fun to see at a glance what we are looking forward to next year. And of course, please reach out of you notice any mistakes or omissions~

RPG Site@rpgsite.net

There are still a few months & plenty of games left in 2026, but we are always looking ahead. We've published the first version of our 2027 RPG calendar. As always, we'll keep this updated through the coming months: https://www.rpgsite.net/feature/18869-the-rpgs-2027-every-rpg-their-release-dates

Somewhat random shout, if you messaged me in the last two months and I didn't reply, I apologize. I've been dealing with work, illness, and injury, and been taking a break from social media. Doing better now, so I should be more available going forward.
