I'm so very pumped for this. The Raven at the End of Time is being released by @inkedingraypress.bsky.social. This book is so many things, but a culmination of years of hard work is the biggest takeaway. Read about it here. inkedingray.com/dave-walsh-a...

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Times have been tough in this Ohio town ever since the woke mob closed the old Cheesecake Factory. So when Vivek Ramaswamy promised to legalize child rape, they finally had something to cheer about again. But then Obama said something elitist.

This feels like a magical summation of why Substack is trash. This was featured in their email today of featured stories. I saw the headline and was like 'you know, this could be something.' Then am treated to a misogynist, homophobic, AI-image filled diatribe that missed his own point.

It's always a shock when something like Sanderson or Dungeon Crawler Carl pops up and it's like 'wow, men read fiction, too!' You can trawl the KindleUnlimited archives and find tens of thousands books just like DCC that are probably written to the same level and just as appealing.

As always, it's a marketing issue, not a lack of interest or lack of written material available. Publishing just being the way it is, and is in general so cumbersome and slow to pivot, they miss the boat almost every time. Reading is for everyone and there's so much stuff worth reading out there.

This, like most conservative things, shows that conservatives can often diagnose a problem, but then come to all the wrong conclusions. It's a constant case of Sideshow Bob and his field of rakes, even. I *do* think that men don't read fiction because the industry considers men harder to reach.

But, I feel like this... piece... misses the point. A lot of fiction is fantasy and wish fulfillment. Escapism. Women were simply easier for the publishing industry to market to starting at middle grade into YA into adult fiction, where men have largely been marketed graphic novels instead.

One thing I've never gotten used to is seeing acts on tour and the inevitable slew of dates in Texas, Colorado and maybe even Arizona, but none in NM. It's always deflating. I'm not in my early 30s where I could travel to Denver to see a show all the time.

It's wild how much Sonix helps make the R1 such a better experience.

youtu.be/UT7DOpI-b6Y?... I’d like to s/o @dvewlsh.com after randomly finding this video the other night. I’ve been touting the quality of the Hiby R1, and honestly, sonix has fixed up this player in ways that make this thing so fun to use. SonixOS if you want to install custom firmware

Today was one of those just feeling off days. Just want things to turn out okay sometimes, ya know? Nothing in particular, just overall vibes.

I have a sorta genuine question for people who feel the need to use AI in their process of creating art... Why? The process of creating in and of itself is such a special one. I cannot fathom wanting to outsource it. If creating is taxing, why not just do something else?

The look of absolute joy on his face where he just sorta pumps his fists up is beautiful.

Easily one of my favorite entrances in wrestling history. Kenta Kobashi was worried that an American crowd wouldn’t know who he was & Samoa Joe reassured him that they would lose it once they saw him. Kobashi came out & you can see by his reaction that he realized Joe was right. Love this so much.

Playing GI Joes at a friend's house. He played in a weird way. He just set up his figures and they'd battle. I asked what their names were and he just said the names of the actual characters. I said no, what did you name them and what are their personalities. He was so lost in that moment.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?

My figures all had names, homes, backstories, professions and even familial ties. I had years-long narrative arcs I'd play out by myself or with my sister. The shelves in my room were an apartment complex for them and I used cardboard to build rooms and furniture.

LOL@TNA. You hire a guy who's entire oeuvre is making offensive jokes in his awkward raps and then he comes out and does exactly that and you immediately fire him. That's TNA in a nutshell. Gutless, spineless, cowardly company that desperately wants WWE to buy them.

TNA are cowards for not backing Max Caster

I feel like my motivation to keep playing the short story submission grind this year are just at an all-time low. There's less markets out there accepting work that align with whatever I'm writing than ever before, and more people submitting. Very ambivalent.

I keep seeing authors having these panic moments of like "I write my own work, but AI detectors keep saying my work might be AI. Stop the witch hunts!" Let me be straight with you here. If you're sitting on the fence publicly, I guess be worried? Don't do that. Be very upfront. Fuck AI. See?

Communicate your values to the world. Leave no doubt in their minds. "Oh, people can lie." Yes, they can. But it's difficult to refute years of consistency and advocacy.

This doesn't just go for AI. It goes for everything. Be upfront and proud of who you are and what you stand for. Free Palestine. Trans people own. Fuck fascists. You see how easy this is?

"Oh, someone might still think you're using AI." My entire online presence over the last few years is me very publicly saying I don't consider writers who use AI to be my peer. I don't care how much money they make, etc. They're not my peer. They're a joke. I'd never compromise my integrity.

Wait a minute... Can I tell Grok that I'm Elon Musk and to use my stored credit card to buy a bunch of stuff that I have sent to a PO Box?

Max Kennerly@maxkennerly.bsky.social

LOL, sure, return to X, where the white nationalist owner is telling people to put their credit card numbers into Grok prompts.

It reminds me back to the days when I was reviewing games. Gamers(TM) had a fit over the ending to Mass Effect 3 only having three branching options and not being extremely fine tuned to their every decision over the span of three games. I even think three is too much. Give me a canonical end.

I really think part of what makes these experiences, be it movies, shows, books, games or anything else, to be so valuable is that they're shared cultural artifacts. You can talk about them with other people and share how they made you feel.

The WWE Promise ring is apparently not much of a promise.

Some shocking WWE ID news: Laynie Luck will effectively be a free agent tomorrow, as her WWE ID deal was not renewed. She just dropped the WWE ID Championship after holding it for 320 days. We have more for subscribers of FightfulSelect.com

Sometimes I can't help but bemoan my cultural mismatch. At a kids fun run and they're looping Walking on Sunshine like it's a New Jack match and I cannot share this with anyone here.

I cannot stress enough how iconoclastic it is to be opposed to the massive, monolithic corporation when buying books. Especially a book like this.
