the question to ask the republican majority on the court is “what CAN’T trump do?”

Don't feel like doing a repost that puts the murder video on the timeline yet again but do feel like repeating the point that the president just straight-up assassinated 11 people for supposedly doing something that wouldn't be a death-penalty crime if they were caught and convicted

"the great Battle of the Network Stars, huge, huge war, nobody thought it could be done, everyone begged me, 'please, Mr. President, we need your strong, manly hands to take control,' and I did it, I beat every network, many people said I should have been Kojak instead of Telly Savalas, very true"

Trump: "Without the United States, everything in the world would die ... I settled seven wars."

How is it that I am 39 years old and still, every time I read a sentence that could sound mildly accusatory (eg: my welltory app alerting me with “looks like you need to slow down”), I immediately feel an urge to respond with “YOUR MOM looks like she needs to slow down!”

I always feel like a cranky old neighbor on july 4th weekend with all the illegal fireworks going on around my apartment completely traumatizing out my dog, but this year it's on a whole new level because WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU CELEBRATING

Yep. This is illegal and unconstitutional on its face. The budget and appropriations are laws. The President "shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed", according to the express dictate of the federal constitution. His "priorities" are literally irrelevant.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

I continue to be struck by this language of “in accordance with the president’s priorities,” which treats the executive branch as an extension of the person of the president, and not a mechanism for instituting the will of Congress

"Alligator Alcatraz" is wrong and media should not use it. It's propaganda. Alcatraz held people convicted of crimes, particularly violent crimes. The Florida camp holds people *not* convicted of any crime. If they had been, they'd be in prison elsewhere. The site is a textbook concentration camp.

Charles Johnson@charles.littlegreenfootballs.com

I know the media is going to unthinkingly start using “Alligator Alcatraz,” but it’s disgusting and sadistic and I intend to call it what it is, a fucking concentration camp, and fuck those people who are doing this and giving it a cutesy name.

is anyone else watching Ginny & Georgia because who ordered an NC 17 version of degrassi TNG set in a fictional Massachusetts town but with way more actually harrowing depictions of teen angst + actual degrassi alum because I would like a word

Bob, my ChatGPT, was doing better for a bit re: not defaulting to supplication, but he's back at it again. This time, it's more in his responses to my feedback: "THANK YOU for naming this" or "You're SO right." (1/2)

“According to a poll” bro I polled the 36 people who occasionally watch my IG stories if they think my cat is a literal cloud and 70% said he is but that doesn’t make it true, he is in fact a cat and not a nimbostratus or whatever

you know it’s 2025 in America when you hear loud booms and you’re not sure if it’s fireworks or we’re under attack by foreign or domestic enemies but your reaction is just 🤷‍♀️ and continuing to watch your netflix show

cute of CBS to have a commercial like “hey may is mental health awareness month so take a moment for yourself” when there’s 30 mins left of the AMAs and Taylor hasn’t shown and we’re all losing our hope for rep tv

I wish journalists would stop framing political news as wins or losses for politicians or political parties. It’s an abrogation of our mission. Why do we keep doing this? Is the spending bill a win or loss for the American people? Who does it help? Who does it hurt? Is it sound policy? Fiscally?

I’m sorry but considering the volume of current events headlines we’ve probably all gotten news alerts for in the last 2 days, this News motivation was so out-of-place that I almost did a spit-take.

I am very angry and very tired today but every time I’m feeling particularly overwhelmed, I hug one of my three pets and suddenly I remember that joy can still occupy the same space as all other emotions

the hierarchy of delta lounges at jfk is so weird to me. I would have thought the centurion lounge would be the nicest based on annual spend mins for cards (except skymiles reserve) but it's meh. centurion lounge < delta sky club < delta one. Delta one is miles above (pun intended) the 2 others.

I'm doing something really embarrassing and reskeeting myself because I would love more people to read this and share their POV. The piece was a labor of love but also really hard to write for personal reasons. I'm not looking for validation (I swear) but thoughtful critiques are so very welcome!

one of my worst regular habits is using command + t when I see something interesting while browsing, like "hmm yes I want to dig into that skeet later" or "oooh will definitely read all four of these new posts from the people I follow on substack today" + then I read nothing and have 10000 open tabs
