The best way to ensure that Meta no longer censors political opposition to autocratic regimes is for people to stop using Meta platforms. There's no law that says you have to post there. There are open alternatives.

No Kings response to Meta: “In the 24 hours before our account was shut down, we posted only a handful of times and livestreamed to thousands. Meta's "high-frequency" excuse doesn't add up…We need answers about why this happened & immediate action to ensure it never happens again.”

This man is so good at this! What an amazing answer. A reporter asks how El-Sayed can campaign with Barack Obama when he has criticized him in the past. El-Sayed’s answer - that you can love someone and still criticize them - is spot on.

My one critique of the book is a lack of crib sheet of all the people involved; it's a large ensemble that's hard to keep straight (esp. if you have no background in this topic). But mostly an individual's identity didn't matter - what did was the sustained, determined collective effort. 8/15

It was a thirteen-year roller-coaster of a struggle. It didn't depend on a single person. Or, rather, various people at different times played a pivotal role ... and then sometimes the baton was passed. 9/15

And in the 1970s and 1980s, it was being clearcut by foresters. It wasn't just about the felling of giant old growth trees, but the devastating secondary environmental impacts, such as the resulting erosion that would fill and muddy streams that are spawning habitat for salmon, and ... 4/15

Underappreciated: US farmland *already substantially produces energy, not food*, and does so very inefficiently. Corn ethanol (~40% of all US corn) requires about 100 times more land per vehicle-mile driven than solar photovoltaics -> electric vehicles. Shifting corn to solar *would free up land*.
