What could go wrong…

Wera Hobhouse MP@werahobhouse.org.uk

Men are using Meta AI glasses to secretly film women at beaches, shops, on the street & on nights out. They then post these clips online where they receive a barrage of misogynistic abuse. I’m campaigning to make this behaviour an offence. Women deserve to feel safe in public spaces.

Big celebrations for us Hungarians today. Orban is finally gone. So gone, he didn't even show up in the new Parliament at all today.

I refreshed yazi.app design and functionality with improved aesthetics, plus an article list for raw access. And yes, this is entirely AI. However, I think this is exactly the use case for it, I don't want to spend hours doing this if it can do it reliably.

yazi.appThe Yazi Brief

I have been doing Neko scans for there years (I’m one of the very early customers) Now I heard @profgalloway.com talk about it on @pivotpod.bsky.social and I love it that it’s spreading. I miss one test from their suite: VO2max. But they are still awesome, particularly with three years of trends.

”What’s wrong with build tools? Other languages are compiled!” Yes, but their compiler is official and always there. The #JS ecosystem has devolved into a state where abstraction, the most fundamental software engineering concept, has been outsourced to third party tooling. *That’s* the problem.

CSS is so powerful now, it's amazing looking through older CSS and seeing what can be replaced with a one-liner. I'm on the hunt for snippets that used to be multiple lines of CSS that can now be done in one. Show me what you got!

It l’s much worse. A newspaper controlled by orban’s friends has obtained the addresses and phone numbers of leading opposition party supporters and put them on a publicly available map. Hungarian police is doing nothing about it, international press hasn’t even picked it up.

incredible that these guys have a massive hard on for a country that, if it were a state, would rank behind kansas in terms of wealth and which would be a total backwater if it weren’t economically integrated with more functional countries

Most podcasts are becoming extremely annoying. Every 5-th word is "like". Or they are being used eve more often. There is almost no content I can listen to where they speak acceptable English.

Strength is an interesting thing. I have been doing hip hinges for a while and I got up to the weight below (150 kg load) and did several easy reps 1-2 times a week. Except yesterday, when I could barely do 6 reps with 120.

With the latest iOS Safari where address bar is at the bottom and changes height while scrolling, it seems all bottom fixed menus are not looking ok--they get a small bottom strip below the menu, like a negative space.

This is such a great collection of posts. I particularly like the why minimal HTML part, that seems totally lost these days.

So many great things in this post. I have only been using a small fraction of them (some theme-based css styling) so lots to learn.

One of the most powerful tools in my toolbox is SVG. When combined with CSS and JavaScript, we can do some truly remarkable things. ✨ 📝 I’ve just published a brand-new blog post that covers the most critical fundamentals. It’s chock full of interactive demos. 😄 Check it out:

Time must always be made. You’re never going to just have it, you need to create it for the things that matter to you. Get rid of “I don’t have time” and replace it with “it’s not important enough to make time for.” Be honest with yourself, and others, about what’s worth doing.

If you've ever found yourself confused by JavaScript's `this` keyword, do I ever have a two-part article coming up for you on @piccalil.li. This first one is the essential groundwork: you can't understand the _what_ of `this` without first understanding the _when_. piccalil.li/blog/javascr...

piccalil.liJavaScript, when is this?JavaScript’s “this” keyword trips up all developers — junior and senior. In the first of two parts, Mat Marquis goes deep on the groundwork you need to better understand “this” and how it works.

Tech is mostly CRUD with auth.

Most of what we call "tech" is about getting the right information into a database and trying to prevent the wrong person from reading or updating it.

Here's a thread with a brief history of dependency management in Go. For those of you newer to Go, it might surprise you to know that go modules was not always part of the language. When Go launched in 2009, it did not have any dependency management solution as Google had no need for one.
