I'm not much use to my kids with video games. Until today. Someone made a Roblox hospital game where you run around as a nurse, so my kid is muttering things like: what the heck is heparin? What is lasix? Where can I find an IV pump?

Welcome new faculty and Instructors to Penn's Division of Hospital Medicine! Day 1 (virtual) complete and can't wait to continue in person for Days 2-3 with the 18 of you! We will soon be opening recruitment for July 2026, see my pinned post for link to our job site or DM me.

Had the pleasure of observing a colleague running teaching rounds, them debriefing afterwards. A few months back, they had done the same during my rounds. If you are in academic medicine and not doing bidirectional peer observations, highly recommend. The more senior person has as much to gain!

Sitting in a meeting being told that our recruitment website which I have invested countless hours into needs to be scrubbed of any whiffs of DEI. Knew this was coming but remain outraged, sad and worried.

Happy Hospitalist Day! Proud to be part of one of the oldest academic Divisions in the nation and love my colleagues and the patient/family centered and collaborative care they provide. If you know a Hospitalist give them a high five today!

The United States Military Academy has just eliminated all Cadet clubs and activities for POC. Most of these have existed for decades like the Society of Black Engineers. They were there when I was a Cadet in 1987. All of the religious ones remain. This isn’t DEI. It’s white Christian Nationalism.

Please read, because, quoting the author: "don't give in to cynicism or apathy. That's what the people promulgating these horrible policies want - a bored, indifferent public who figures that who cares, nothing matters any more, it's gonna happen no matter what. But it doesn't have to."

The kind of thing where if it weren't 2025 you would skim through, chuckle and move on. But since it's 2025 just add it to the pile of existential dread.

Now Musk has sent Booger, Broccoli Rob and Big Balls to the NOAA, in order to be sure us freeloaders stop getting all those free warnings about hurricanes and stuff.

It is just as important to know what kind of patient has the disease, as to know what kind of disease the patient has. —Adapted from William Osler who stole it from Henry George Plimmer, 1899.
