Every Republican member of Congress has an X account. They know how to tweet praise of the president if they agree with him. Very few have tweeted support of Trump’s diesel deal with Putin or his waiving of the Lindsey Graham sanctions.

I've lived in the DC area almost continuously since birth and have never experienced this.

Trump on DC: "Nobody wanted to eat out. They were afraid. Even if you were in the restaurant, people would walk in and like the Wild West, 'Hold it up!' Everybody is standing there. Can you imagine? A fancy restaurant. They were robbing the whole restaurant. It's crazy."

For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.

“Billionaires who popularized stock-based lending include Larry Ellison and Elon Musk. Both borrow to avoid having to sell shares—which could trigger a taxes and dilute their voting rights—in companies they founded.” www.wsj.com/finance/the-...

It's hard to believe but Democrats ran for decades against the "Bush tax cuts" and then made most of them permanent. Then ran against the "Trump tax cuts" and then didn't repeal them either.

Did this guy win some of these prizes?

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Lots of people are really bad at math and don’t have the faintest clue how to calculate a margin of error with a 95% confidence interval.

Mike Johnson: "When I'm in these big arenas, I ask for hands -- 'Show me your hand if you've answered a poll in the last six months.' There will be like three hands among 300 people. I'm telling you, these polls are off. All of them."

I think it’s very hard for most people to understand just how rich a billionaire is. And then add about three orders of magnitude to that. Musk is worth more than whole countries, entire U.S. states. The interest on his net worth would be roughly the size of the NIH budget.

Republicans in Ohio are spending millions promoting a socialist candidate, hoping he'll steal votes from Democrat Sherrod Brown. So in Ohio, confusing voters is a brilliant strategy. In Alaska, it's a five-alarm constitutional crisis.

BRENNAN: The DOJ lawsuit demands the Alaska result not be certified if voters are confused. The confusion is defined as Sen. Sullivan not winning. BLANCHE: That's not what it says BRENNAN: I'm quoting from it. You are telling them not to certify it. What right does the federal govt have?

Curious to see if there is a backlash to the DOJ filing motions etc to benefit of Republican candidates ahead of Election Day. Murkowski has spoken out against it and she is the GOAT of overcoming ballot difficulties, having won as a write-in.

Really enjoyed starting my day with this post. The drop in the grid’s carbon intensity is incredible. “two decades ago the average carbon emissions per kWh were around 500 g CO2 / kWh. In 2025 it was 121 g CO2 / kWh.”

NEW BRIGHT SPOTS: Even on 100% gas power, heat pumps cut emissions by ~48% and EVs by about half. The authors of an “electrification doesn’t cut emissions” paper made a series of compounding mistakes and used misleading assumptions. Here's why. janrosenow.substack.com/p/heat-pumps...
