I am at the library and the guy next to me is leading some kind of HR call and apparently someone is on his 5th warning about having a rabbit at work. "I know we all know this but no pets. The only pet we can have is a fish."

Chatham House Rule: When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants spend the first half hour arguing what the rule actually means.

Hey folks. In total honesty my tour is NOT selling well. I’ve sold 30 tickets in a 400 seater in Birmingham, and not much more elsewhere. If you like musical comedy, if you like standup, then please come see my show! And spread the word! The Rachel Parris Songbook tour starts in Nov! Link in bio! 🎶

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

burying a time capsule: a frontier model explainer on transformers in the style of a 60s documentary. autonomously created by Opus 5.5 given some initial style pointers and occasional redirection. 10.26.

I was reflecting on how many random contingencies went into creating the current accelerating AI moment and had Opus 5.5 put together a video, inspired by old science show Connections, to try and point out how a series of initially unrelated ideas led to the moment we are in now.

Hairdressers & tech writers: There's always been people who believed they don't need one. Home perms, shavers, your mum cuts it; it works for some people. There's a reason hairdressers still have jobs - and why tech writers do too. You could go without, but don't be surprised when your "roots" show.

The teachers asked a girl from my class to go up on stage and show off the Jim'll Fix It medal she'd got from the show. Decades later at our one and only school reunion there was one thing every one wanted to know. The answer was, no he didn't and yes she was fine. bsky.app/profile/andr...

Our very formal deputy headmaster gave a talk on folk traditions; he suddenly disappeared and reappeared wearing a Morris Man outfit (handkerchiefs and all), and then prompted to do a morris dance to music. It was never mentioned again. bsky.app/profile/andr...

Jev is the new kid in town, and it's something we'll be including in our documentation audits and new managing documentation course. But what is Jev, and how could it help Technical Writers? This blog post answers that question. www.cherryleaf.com/2026/09/jev-...

cherryleaf.comWhat Jev could mean for Technical WritersJev is designed to make fast, structured AI decisions rather than write prose. Here is where it could help Technical Writers manage documentation at scale.

This German comedy sketch (with English subtitles) perfectly captures so much of what is going on right now in the UK, the US, and across Europe. "Playing the 'Nazi Card' in the Third Reich", by Browser Ballett.

continually underrated how FUNNY the horrifying transcripts of rogue autonomous AIs always end up being

Colin@colin-fraser.net

you would not believe how much tokens are burned on simply trying to solve CAPTCHAS. It's like 95% of the transcript.

In June 1934 the British Union of Fascists - the Blackshirts - staged a rally at the Olympia in London. One protestor after another was singled out and beaten up by the crowd. Here's how Ronald Blythe described it.
