As a historian and queer lefty who normally isn't very optimistic about the American people, I've actually got a lot more positive outlook on the fascist resurgence being defeated decisively at the end of four years. Like, actual real hope. But it'd take too long to explain. So, instead...

It's not the most urgent problem in the world, but it sure would be nice if Wizards of the Coast went ahead and released the entire D&D 3.5 and d20 Modern SRDs into Creative Commons, unmodified and unredacted. You know, before we have to remind them why they had to do that for the 5e SRD.

If you do not do what you can to keep Republicans out of power right now, and you actively tell other people not to vote either, you are killing transgender Americans. While I say there's no wrong way to be transgender, pulling a Milo Y and empowering the people who want you dead is an exception.

(Being trans means you likely know more about trans medicine and trans politics than average. But that's not the same as each of us being an infallible genius on how legislation and social change works any more than it means each of us can expertly perform gender-affirming surgery.)

(Nobody should trust me as some kind of political genius or anything. I'm just saying, pretty sure that nearly everyone knows more than someone who clearly can't even explain the difference between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.)

tl;dr: Any trans person telling you not to vote for Talarico etc is doing the equivalent of talking about how they're refusing treatment for life-threatening illnesses and eating ivermectin instead. Maybe they believe it, but they're hurting themselves and anyone foolish enough to do the same.

(Also, I am not saying that there is never a situation that calls for strategic voting, political brinkmanship as part of negotiations, or things like that. I'm saying that the people talking about this specific thing don't know how to do any of that stuff and this is all about vibes for them.)

People who care about transgender people are not going to vote against our rights because JK Rowling asks them to do it, but they absolutely might because they're told to do it by particularly foolish loudmouths who are true believers in a literally suicidal strategy that has never worked, ever.

And finally, because there's a tendency for these sorts of people to portray themselves as lefter-than-thou and everyone else as right-wing, I'm going to say this outright. If you suppress left-wing votes like this, you are a right-wing fascist with extra steps and you should be judged accordingly.

Every single transgender person who is encouraging anyone not to vote for the less transphobic option right now is actively participating in oppression of all transgender people. Doing it out of stupidity is not as immoral as doing it out of deliberate malice, but the effects can actually be worse.

Cannot stress enough that this is a pitiful action by a weak, scared, pathetic group of insecure, wannabe authoritarians, and they should be mocked until the end of time for wanting to bring in the military over some people protesting them at a Home Depot.

I don't support any taxpayer money going toward life-saving healthcare for Trump supporters, but thankfully I'm not allowed to make that decision. Trump supporters should not be allowed to retract life-saving healthcare from their political enemies, either.

Early infighting between anti-fascist factions is pretty common. Quite a few of them have still managed to form successful coalitions and win. If anti-Trump folks are going to squabble and infight, now is probably the absolute best time. Better to get it worked out as soon as possible.

Centrists have their own flaws. I'm not going to list them because, y'know, plank in my own eye. And for the sake of my blood pressure, too. And both of those broad factions have ten zillion subfactions. But I do hope we can get things worked out.

I do wish we could have a bit less of the "pretend-jaded snark" stuff from all sides, though. Because it's really irritating. My side does the pretend-jaded snark more. I'll admit it. It's counterproductive. Sincerity is a better approach. But it's not _just_ my faction who does it.

My best source of hope, though, is that randos on social media don't generally reflect political reality. Because seriously, there's a few seriously counterproductive folks in every faction and a lot of them post on Bluesky, and it's really depressing.

-We're not doomed. -Every faction has some serious weaknesses. -Some of us should focus on the planks in our own eyes, though. I'm generally on the more leftist side of things. Our big flaw is that we don't have a realistic idea of how to acquire and use political influence to achieve goals.

Every big anti-Trump faction has a lot of flaws to work out. But we're in the middle of a global trend toward political realignments and such, and lots of people are reevaluating their priorities. I'm confident we have a reasonable chance of adapting and winning.

At this point, I'm just angry that people as stupid as Trump and Noem have the ability to go through life not understanding how stupid they are. If there were any justice in the world, they'd be put in a room and told how stupid they were 24/7 until it finally sunk into their stupid heads.

Every day, these people come out, shit in their pants, and nod smugly at how impressed they assume everyone else is. I'll admit it. I'm jealous of their utter obliviousness to their own staggering inadequacies. I wish I had that sheer degree of unearned confidence and self-satisfaction.

Same goes for all these "notice me, sempai" losers making pathetic fake bills to try to impress Trump. They should be made to understand how utterly sad they look. And every day, Elon Musk should be forced to lament that he foolishly let everyone see that he's a pathetic loser, not Tony Stark.

I'm self-conscious about my creative work and never think it's good enough, so I haven't promoted my first solo product much. But I guess I might as well. D&D 5e (2014) subclasses and some other stuff. Should be mostly compatible with 2024. It's cheap! www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/4...

I really want to talk about non-political stuff more, but whenever I get talking about tabletop RPGs, I just babble endlessly. So, anyway, I'm playing the Ys series video games for the first time since I played Ys 3 on the SNES. Beat the 1-2 remakes, playing 3 remake, have Origins to play later.

Really liking them. They're a little short, but that's honestly fine with me. They're cheap and being short means I can enjoy them fast and move on. The soundtracks are amazing. I liked the SNES Ys 3 soundtrack, but these blow it out of the water.

Genuinely baffled about why pundits on both sides are upset about the Qatar plane and taking a stand after ignoring dozens of other blatant acts of corruption. Like, why? What the hell? Crypto scams, selling Tesla on the White House lawn, etc, was fine with them. But this stupid plane matters?

Like, it's obviously blatant corruption and a threat to national security, but it probably doesn't even rank in the top 100 for either of those categories when it comes to thinks Trump has done just this month.

There are hardcore Trumpists upset about this and Schumer is finally jumping on this as his big chance to make a stand about something. SERIOUSLY? Why...why do...ARGH! Even for greedy evil selfish monsters, why is dropping the Dow by 2000 points less of a concern than a stupid plane?

🧵 I am not a political scientist nor a historian. I am not especially learned nor wise. But there is a basic bit of civics that seems to have been forgotten. Many of the protests against the current regime in the US are framed as: "It's illegal. There must be rule of law," or 1/11
