Oh ffs. MPs must stop romanticising this absolute horseshit. Brexiters promised a land of milk and honey and delivered contaminated water and broken biscuits. We don’t want it. And we mustn’t be tied to failure and lies just because politicians want to cover up the utter mess they’ve made.

Would love to have read my book on the train this morning but alas, I have sat opposite 2 women who can’t stop talking, now telling us how good AI is to design a cake 😡

I wish we could all just leave the clocks alone. Seen lots of reasons online for it today and over the years and I don’t agree with any of them. Leave them alone.

The real inversion is Burnham defending freedom of movement on merits, to the benefit of Britons; rather than a "price to be paid" for market access. For the first time by a PM since.... 2004...?

If anyone knows someone or some way I can get tickets for Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt at The Moth Club I’d be eternally grateful. I’ve tried and been on every waitlist but no luck and it’s my dream gig 🙏🏼

The Duchy of Cornwall says it collected £503,711 rent from the King for Highgrove House. Prince William is the Duke of Cornwall. Father pays rent to son. No money left the family but nice PR. Previously, King Charles was the Duke of Cornwall. He was paying rent to himself.

leftfootforward.orgRoyal financial privileges show that we are not in it togetherThis week, after perfunctory scrutiny, the UK parliament approved a core Sovereign Grant of £99.9m (from 2027/28) for the King, a 93% increase from the £51.8m for 2024/25 and 65% higher in real terms ...

Tumble weed across legacy media about ITV's exposé of Reform. Can you imagine the hysteria if an SNP councillor advocated for concentration camps or a Muslim Labour candidate said he wants to shoot MPs he considers traitors? The Mail front pages, Telegraph thinkpieces, and somber Today interviews?

So they're at it again 🙄 Torturing valid HMRC data to create wildly misleading headlines, designed to invoke fear and anger about immigrants. Same old, same old... (and you'll see just how old shortly!) 🧵1/28

This is quite extraordinary. I don't think I have heard a more coherent, articulate and accurate deconstruction & demolition of Nigel Farage's ReformUK, Tory & Restore policy than this. In under 85 seconds! @rafaelbehr.bsky.social is on here folks and worth a follow.

Andy Burnham confirms what previous PM's - May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak and Starmer - failed to, that Russia interfered in the Brexit referendum.

Kemi Badenoch wants to exempt the family home from inheritance tax. But that creates a perverse incentive for elderly people to *upsize* to save IHT. That could double the cost of the policy, and push £100bn+ from savings into housing. A 🧵 on bad tax cuts.

The speech's big policy announcement is an end to inheritance tax being levied on primary residences. It is greeted with whoops in the hall – but it's another tax cut focused on the wealthy, and in this case on London and the south-east.

Knowing how highly Kemi Badenoch prizes her lack of gaffes, she might wish to correct the softening effect of her chosen words: ‘We wanted him to be our mayoral candidate.’ Jeffrey Archer WAS the Tories’ mayoral candidate, endorsed by Margaret Thatcher and John Major, until his crimes were exposed.

I’m at a large shopping centre and I am a bit shocked at home many school age children are here. Losing count. How sad 😞

I do find this country mad. Anyone can see that social care is in a state of devastating crisis in this country and that it is the key source of the NHS crisis as well. There is no feasible way to solve it without everyone contributing. Burnham is honest about that and is already getting pelters.

1/23 Sorry, this will be long... There is a lot of shouting about what happened in the Channel yesterday. So I want to go back to basic law. Not immigration policies or political rhetoric. At sea, the starting point is simple: Preservation of life comes first under all maritime conventions.

Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

After 3 days of pleasing everyone else have spent the day after Pilates, gardening, reading and listening to great music. Now having a glass of wine in the sunshine. Restored.

NEW MRP JUST DROPPED: All but four constituencies in GB support UK membership of the EU. In those four, the most popular option was 'Don't Know' (Ashfield, Clacton, Great Yarmouth and Boston and Skegness).

This should be the moment people finally realise that Farage has turned them into fascists. If you’re choosing this dangerous inhumanity over the rescue work of the RNLI, you’ve lost your minds to racism and hatred.

I can see the far right envelop the UK like an octopus a shell, with sociopaths like Musk as the head using its Tommeh-Tommos-Farage-Lowe tentacles to stress-test the shell for weakness like donations rules to exploit, probe cracks like Piddington to pry open. THOSE are the borders we must defend!
