Anyone complaining about what mainstream media is or is not covering should be supporting the work of @propublica.org

ProPublica@propublica.org

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. We are. 500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term. Our tally is almost certainly an undercount. THREAD (content warning: violence) ⬇️

You know I’m a teacher by trade, but I can’t stand for women to have to share their most intimate horrors to try to educate men on abortion or rape. The men already know…they either don’t care, or they are already actively working on our side.

Here's some unsolicited advice for my Democratic friends - in office and running. Think twice before hiring consultants who are cozying up to private equity, signing up to defend prediction markets, or telling candidates to not say what they actually feel about the big AI companies.

Don’t trust larger media outlets to do the work? @propublica.org is and they’re a 501c3.

ProPublica: In 2024, the FBI sought to launch a sweeping pay-to-play investigation examining interactions between Sen. Susan Collins and a top donor, records and emails show. After Trump returned to office, the investigation died.

I hope widows bay dominating the Emmys inspires a lot more shows about lovable weirdos and way less “rich people are soooo fucked up haha” shows

STOP SCROLLING Why I’m sounding the alarm: VoteSafe. org is run by Elon Musk’s America PAC, the same political operation working to turn out Republican voters in the midterms. The site collects voter and political info, and allows your information to be shared or sold to business partners.

⚠️ Be careful with VoteSafe .org. It is NOT an official voting website. It’s tied to Elon Musk’s America PAC and collects a lot of personal information from people who use it. Before you hand over your name, address, phone number, email and voter information, know who you’re giving it to.

Deregulation in the US will harm the most vulnerable first Disabled people who are extra dependent on the supply chain Those with food & med allergies who can’t easily switch brands. Those with food insecurity relying on food banks who can’t know if the food has been recalled. This is by design.

I feel like I’m living In a dystopian novel written in 1993 that was rejected by dozens of publishers because it was incredibly stupid.

They’re both needy and greedy. And we see the results in how they live.

every billionaire & tech mogul, they all want to be adored & celebrated without doing the things Dolly did with a fraction of the power & money. What she had, she gave away. I'm sure she was comfortable (& that's good!). But she just relentlessly helped. It's not that difficult. Love. Care. Help. 💚🌸

I seem to remember “paperless” being touted as the environmentally friendly option.

Dozens of gas-burning power plants are being built across the country, solely to power data centers. These plants could emit as much planet-warming pollution as half of all passenger vehicles in the entire country in a single YEAR. We need a data center moratorium — now.

19 pieces of legislation and counting. Some Members of Congress measure their term in years served and viral moments, but I measure mine in legislation signed and dollars delivered to my community.

I’ve been screening our documentary with organizing communities in the South. So far, the organizers mention data centers first at every single event. From racial justice orgs to old school activists who don’t usually think about tech policy. This has legs.

If your face didn’t look like this in 2020, I don’t really care what you think about Dr Fauci. That man saved millions of lives. We did what we could with the information we had. Florida opened back up too soon, and nearly 100,000 people died, one of highest death rates per capita in the nation
