What was that word for nostalgia for times you didn’t personally experience? Because yesterday I visited the Chippewa Falls Museum of Industry & Technology, and I totally felt that.

Highway 61 Revisited is a faithful revival of the 1961 Standard Alphabets for Highway Signs, including the long-forgotten Series A, and of the 1966 lower case. It is a protest against the ugly and inconsistent lower case and punctuation of the Standard Alphabets used on US street signs since 2009

someone needs to turn the "places adjacent" infobox on Wikipedia into a really bad text adventure game YOU ARE IN MARTIN'S LOCATION > LOOK THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE HERE (ACCORDING TO THE 2020 CENSUS). TO THE EAST IS A GRAVEL PATH LEADING TO BEAN'S PURCHASE. > NORTH YOU WALK NORTH. YOU ARE NOW IN GORHAM

It's not perfect, but I think it's getting pretty close now. How do I express the reformist, protestant, fork-of-the-last-good-version nature of what I am trying to do here? A recension, a corrective revival, a counter-revision? (And I hear rumors that FHWA has recanted on "s" and "w" themselves?)

Love this! So much easier than Google Earth. Here's the unbuilt Bushwick Expy, I-78 as it would have been signed (continuing across Manhattan on the Lower Manhattan Expy). Note the branch to Hunts Point and the 3rd Queens-Midtown Tunnel tube.

My own collection has let me down, but thanks to ebay, I now know what the "Q" and "j" look like (Or maybe not really, since the B and P in Banjo Pete are from a different font, so the j might also be.)

I still want to know where the narrow lower case on the "Business District" and "Bayshore Fwy" signs on Page Mill Road/Oregon Expressway came from. Was there a whole family of California lower cases out there somewhere?

I didn't realize that my phone had been counting my steps every day for the last 10 years, but now I know how much the pandemic reduced my baseline level of physical activity, and how much getting a dog has increased it again

I was hoping for your help with something. (Please RT for reach.) Is there a particular font that’s instantly recognizable to someone who lives where you do, and appreciated/recognized/hated there, but completely unknown elsewhere? Road signs, street names, transit, infrastructure, stuff like that?

Also noteworthy for the extension of the Warren Freeway to downtown Berkeley along Derby and Oxford Streets and through the Gourmet Ghetto on its way to El Cerrito
