This article buries the actual story: James Dolan sent an email to Madison Square Garden staff claiming they’d get a Knicks championship ring…. Except it was fake, claiming they suck at identifying malware, and forced them into “training.” What a piece of shit. www.nytimes.com/athletic/771...
Me - and many of my friends, especially Democratic State Committee members - scream about this on the NY level. The state party would rather give up parts of the state than invest in year round organizing. There is no long term plan, let alone a long term vision for New York and it’s infuriating.
Warnock: "I worry that Democrats are missing a real opportunity to invest in a serious & sustained way in the South. If we would just lean in and stay in through the election & after the election, the kind of victory you saw us achieve here in Georgia, it is achievable in a place like Mississippi."

Laws meant to protect survivors, without survivor input, can be flimsy and even dangerous. We saw what happened in 2018. But @hfny.bsky.social stepped in and demanded public hearings, which successfully informed future legislation. College students deserve to be heard, too.
NY lawmakers are scrambling to enact reforms based on Jane Doe's experience at Cornell. But no survivors have been invited to the table to tell their story. We've seen what happens when laws are enacted for us, WITHOUT us. We need public hearings. www.timesunion.com/opinion/arti...

Another good reason to vote for @bradlander.bsky.social. (This wasn't planned - we just passed it on the street and Lander noticed, grinned, stopped, and clicked.)
Jay Jacobs created the corrupt party environment that lets people like Bichotte act the way they do. It's not just Brooklyn. Look at Suffolk County. That's not defending democracy.
To the elected officials rejecting the power grab set on negating an election: thank you. Our voices matter. Our votes count. Thank you for taking a stand.

To be sure — but what blows my mind is that the leadership of the state prison system that was in place when these murders occurred (we're still waiting for resolution in the suit brought by the family of Messiah Nantwi) is still in place. Zero accountability at the top.
Should’ve included that we’ve paid $20M+ for this assholes defense. And still counting.
I’d rather my tax dollars help make a family whole after state employees beat their son to death than my tax dollars help defend a serial sexual- harassing state employee who continues retaliating against his victims. And yes, ICYMI, New Yorkers are still paying for Andrew Cuomo’s defense.

Update: The actual amount of the settlement is far, for more than $10M. It is ... $24M ... paid for by state taxpayers like the person typing this and many of the people reading it. I can't name a larger sum for a settlement in this kind of case.
The subtext: it’s time to make New York’s wealthy pay what they owe in taxes. And that means right-siding an upside down NYS tax code.
Two-thirds of NYC’s income growth since the pandemic went to the top 1%. The richest 0.001% — about 50 families — saw their average income soar from $315 million in 2019 to nearly $600 million a year. It’s time to build a city that works for everyone.

The Democratic Party has let a consulting industry exploit elderly donors in its name, wreck its reputation and finances in the process, and walk away rich whether the party wins or loses. When a mirror is held up, the instinct is to break the glass rather than look. On why the press looks away:

Most who vote Democratic this November are voting for opposition. For someone to put more of a check on a lawbreaking, rights violating, power abusing White House. They are *not* voting for compromise to rescue Trump from his mistakes, and some will be disillusioned if that's what their vote gets.
The Dem message to Trump should be that if he wants ANYTHING from Congress, he’ll have to stop all the flagrant abuses, and that their legislating will be aimed at protecting the public from rogue government. “Common ground” as an opening bid is a terrible posture. www.offmessage.net/p/hakeem-jef...
Dan is one of my favorite reporters, hands down. But #1 on this list (A reorganized state Democratic Party) is wrong. Sure, it has more money, but it goes to HER campaign, w/ little down-ballot coordination & disappears once campaign season is over. It's Cuomo's state party, just w/ more funding.

A disgusting effort to subvert the will of the voters just to hold on to her leadership position. All Democratic elected officials in Brooklyn should speak out against this blatant power grab by Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn.
Tonight the party chair announced her intention to pursue an anti-democratic power grab—changing the rules and packing the executive committee so she can overrule Brooklyn voters and hold on to her position. All Democrats should reject this as antithetical to the values of our party.

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

people could respond to this framing around reporting deaths—"had significant underlying health conditions"—with more confidence if we weren't also living through a pandemic in which we have been told only people who have "underlying health issues" are "vulnerable" or "at risk"
Breaking News: Two deaths in Michigan have been linked to cyclospora. Both people who had the parasite also had underlying health issues.
This article significantly diminishes the findings against Rep. Edwards: he’s a serial sexual harasser and created a hostile work environment. I won’t pretend that I have all the answers here, but I do know a censure is not enough for accountability purposes.
The House Ethics Committee says it is recommending that Rep. Chuck Edwards be censured by the full House after finding that he “engaged in persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards two young female staffers.”

HFNY is shocked to see the Mayor reverse course after campaigning against the sexual misconduct by Cuomo & his enabling team. It's time to stop working with Katz, who deployed many of the same Team Cuomo-style tactics on behalf of Platner. Our statement:
Mamdani: "The first album I was ever given was a clean version of 'The Blueprint,' which is unfortunate. I learned about the importance of freedom of expression."
Not directly related to this (interesting & important) thread- but I wanted to point out that most of the 11-min video is DARVO in action. As @charlotteclymer.bsky.social mentions here, Platner Denies, Attacks his “alleged” victim, and Reverses Victim & Offender by claiming he’s being set up.
Most of his 11-min video is spent denying the allegation as totally false, portraying himself as a "regular person" and a victim against "large forces" and as a defender of the people. Here's what I think is his strategy...

Hi, rape should not be the floor when supporting a candidate for office. Anyone who stood by Platner after the first round of credible allegations needs to not only rescind their support now but also make amends for the damage they’ve caused by sticking with him beforehand. That is all…for now.
Look, this is a fair article when it comes to legitimate questions about Schumer's leadership. But how do you write about the DSCC failures and only mention Gillibrand once, and in passing? Not even a mention that Schumer appointed her, and she's clearly failing at her job.

@alexbores.nyc always talks about how Congressmembers call him about his AI legislative proposals and how badly they’re needed. He urges them to take the idea and RUN with it NOW - he won’t be in office for a while!…and they never do.
Kind of incredible that given the risks to employment, intelligence and intellectual property rights, barely any legislation has been proposed on AI.
How about affordability AND impeaching Trump (+admin officials) Affordability AND prosecuting ICE officers The name of the game needs to be “Affordability AND…” If Jeffries doesn’t want to walk and chew gum at the same time (bc let’s be clear- we know he can), we need a Dem leader who will.
Hakeem Jeffries doesn't rule out impeaching Trump if Democrats retake the House majority, but says Democrats will be focused on affordability
Not allegations. He was found liable for sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll. Name it, use up your skeet characters, your lede word count, whatever. Just please stop minimizing sexual violence.
