Bathroom project took a nose diver when I started trying to fit the panels (silicone and adhesive and all) only to find they wouldn't fit. So I've had lots of fault finding sessions and a nice break and today.... I finally fit the panels!

Honestly I didn't expect this to be as horrendously difficult as it has been. Super proud of myself for getting back on the horse after a couple of weeks off. Plan in place for the next bits but a day off first 😊

Skipped the gym at lunch with the intention of practicing with the circular saw, discovered the ply I was going to practice with is super warped and therefore unhelpful so just got on with it. The 3 panels for the long bit of the bath are now cut, tomorrow I will attempt to fit them after work!

I mean.... I loved Jane Hissey's Old Bear Stories... I'm not sure it'd make a good TTRPG πŸ˜‚ To be fair, really little kids would enjoy pretending to be their favourite stuffed toy and going on low stakes adventures.

Okay. You have unfortunately been hit with the curse that makes you adapt a work you liked as a kid into a ttrpg. What thing are you adapting?

Came home from the office yesterday with the intention of cracking on and getting the three shower panels for the back wall done. If you've been following along on this journey you'll already know exactly how well that went 🫠

Once again and over and over until it gets through: archives and libraries scanning something for preservation is an entirely different story than private citizens and companies doing it, because there are strict ethical standards for the former and the latter consider them annoyances.

Genuinely though how the heck did I think I'd get all that done on Friday?? It took me like 3 hours to do it today - worth it for a level bath but still πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Siliconed the bath on Sunday night. Not worth a photo. However husband has correctly pointed out that whilst the batons supporting the bath are lovely, I've cut them 10mm too long and they will prevent the inclusion of a bath panel later on, so I'll need to wield a chisel at some point.

The bath is now in! Turns out screwing the batons to the studs is a surefire way to get things to stick to the wall. FFS. We had a bit of a mission getting the bath in, and it's all levelled, on its feet and as I type the adhesive is drying!

Tomorrow I'll silicone seal the bath and on Tuesday I'll start the scary bit of cutting and fixing the shower panels. Actually, to be honest, everything is scary from here πŸ˜…

Marked it all out, started screwing into the walls aaaaaaand... The plasterboard plugs refuse to deploy their wings correctly and the baton falls out. Folks, this was the part of the project I was most confident about and it was going TERRIBLY.

Long story short, had a bit of a cry, texted my dad (obvs) and the husband came upstairs to remind me that I should probably eat something. Made a plan for the next day aaaaaaand....

Friday. Friday brought the first tantrum of the project. The plan (which I now know was super ambitious) was to cut the batons for the wall and the wood for the bath feet to sit on, then screw the batons into the wall, get the bath in and seal it! In 2.5 hours. Yeah that didn't happen.

Cutting the wood went great! I wielded a handsaw with great efficiency and used my new circular saw without removing any limbs. Good start. Took it all upstairs, only to discover I did not have the right length screws for this project. I had to go back to B&Q. Again.

Wednesday: an evening trip to B&Q to pick the stuff up I'd ordered on Tuesday. I'd tried to pick it up on Tuesday as I was over there anyways, but the order wasn't ready. Turns out they couldn't find the clamps I'd ordered, would I like longer ones for free? Yes please! 😁 Oh, and the eclipse.

Tuesday: plumber came to move the pipes! Slight hiccup that some of the pipes were left too tall so he had to get his tools out again and rejig them πŸ˜… Very glad I got someone out to do this bit, the extra expense was worth the lack of hassle!

Feel like one question i always ask when reading stuff like this is: will the rich send their kids to trade school?

Saturday bathroom update. It has been A Day. I started my day with a parkrun and a meeting about parkrun and haven't really stopped since πŸ˜‚ This is how we're ending the day:

Go to Screwfix, come back, crack on. Things are going great. I think to myself "wow I'm really getting the hang of this!" Reader, I did not say this out loud. The tile still heard me.

The last tile of the day decides no. It doesn't want to come away from the grout. The grout is its bestie, they can't be separated. And thus my wall now resembles the moon. Sigh.

About an hour in I made the unwelcome discovery that the 1.3mAh battery I have for my multi tool* was not sufficient for the job at hand. At all. * I use deWalt for all (my drill and multitool) my cordless tools so I can use the same battery. 1.3mAh has previously been fine for drilling πŸ˜‚

Order a new, larger, battery, from Screwfix. Took the opportunity to remove a bunch of silicone and unscrew the bath from the floor. Discover the bath is now free moving and can be removed, a day ahead of schedule, huzzah! Wrangle husband for Bath Removal.

Following on from my pipe-related level up (and with the knowledge that the plumber is coming on Monday to move the pipes into the wall) I started trying to remove the tiles on Wednesday after work. This is what I achieved in 40 minutes 😬

I've also got to patch more plaster than I'd hoped to - some of them just aren't coming off very cleanly despite removing all the grout. So that's a fun new skill I guess πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Following on from my pipe-related level up (and with the knowledge that the plumber is coming on Monday to move the pipes into the wall) I started trying to remove the tiles on Wednesday after work. This is what I achieved in 40 minutes 😬

The first tile took 30 minutes and the second tile took 10, so there was a good rate of improvement. I absolutely thought that having a multi tool with the grout removing attachment would make this easier. And I guess in one way it is, but hoo boy do my arthralgic joints hate it.

Yesterday I spent another 40 minutes clearing tiles. Big success, I got 8 tiles off (that's an average of 5 minutes per tile 😎)! There are another 33 tiles to go. Around 3 hours of work. And my joints already hate me.

New skill unlocked: fitting valves onto pipes. Honestly I feel like I've levelled up. Got to buy a nice quality adjustable spanner as well as much cheap uni ones are fine for M10 bolts but not big enough for plumbing πŸ˜‚

Belated alt text: two copper pipes with shiny new compression valves. The pipe on the left is taller than the pipe in the right, and the valve on the right hand pipe is a little off center because nobody's perfect.

GREG DAVIES: seems like a kind of a shit task. Everyone just seems like they're going home normally. ALEX HORNE: well before you say that let's have a look at how Odysseus did. cut to panel of AJAX, MENELAUS, AGAMEMNON, and DIOMEDES who are all staring at ODYSSEUS with his head in his hands

Not to sound pretentious, but reading an old, banged up physical book is really the best thing. I don't have to fight it I can just get comfy and read πŸ˜‚

This is the most Nigel Farage thing Nigel Farage has ever done. Stand down in the safest seat Reform holds, then stand again so he can win it back and say: β€œSee? 20,000 people voted for me, so we can all forget about my dodgy billionaire mate.” He is such a fucking drama queen.

Oh, since last I trod the boards of blue sky: -I did not, in fact, get super into women's Rugby -I hyperfocused hard on Silksong and completed it! -I am still average at MTG -My D&D party's BG3 run, ironically, petered out -My current hyperfocus is Blue Prince. I know, I'm late.

Already had a solo game of Leaping Lions, I was really looking forward to this after previews and it's very fun, plus look at this art! So cute. (No, as always, I did not beat the automata opponent πŸ˜‚)
