I’m still waking up. I definitely just spent trying to figure out what this painting had to do with deep fried eggs.
In the wake of the far-reaching loss of WW1, pictures which had an emphasis on continuity and nostalgia had enormous appeal in Britain during the inter-war years. The clarity of definition in James Walker Tucker's 'An Idle Chat,' (1936) is down to his use of egg tempera.
I read this on Thursday, and found myself crying over my lunch. I’ve been in the world of craft just long enough that the generation that taught me wood firing is starting to disappear. This beautiful comic of handycraft and loss is perfection.
This week you can find The Scale of a Man, my illustrated reflection on craft, grief, and inheritance, on @therumpus.net. Thank you @marinaomi.bsky.social for believing in this piece and getting it further into the world. Read the whole thing here: therumpus.net/2026/10/13/t...

Hour 16. 1500f in front, 946 in back. Swing shift is going well, with @dunting.bsky.social and Lilith Rocket running the kiln. They’ll do body reduction overnight, starving the kiln of O2 at various points. I’m back on shift in the morning.

What’s a poster you had in your room growing up? I had “Snakes of North America” over my bed, and a particular large Han Solo poster as well.
What's a poster you had in your room growing up? Surprising nobody: HMS Rose looking absolutely beat to shit. Part of a double-sided promo poster for Master and Commander that arrived tucked into the LA Times circa 2003. (Stayed a part of my room decor through two decades and multiple houses.)
