🧪 Wow! This is potentially huge. Link to the original papers in the article www.abc.net.au/news/health/...

I don’t know that this is “crazy” so much as “it’s completely consistent for a bunch of billionaires who made their money contributing nothing to human welfare to dislike people who have the desire to do good in the world unconnected from the profit motive.”
The crazy thing about firing all of these federal employees is that they tend to be underpaid, super hardworking, in it for the right reasons, idealistic people who could’ve worked in industry or pharma and made way more money but they truly believed in the mission and the good they were doing.

I’m getting tired of “every accusation is a confession”.
New in PN: Musk is the autopen "Trump is trying to undo Biden’s presidency by claiming he was too incompetent to exercise power while some shadowy figure was running things instead. The juxtaposition is jarring as we are daily confronted w/a POTUS who's vigorously, confidently *not doing his job*"

Has anyone yet written a parody short story about a spider mother who feels guilty for not staying at home and being eaten alive by her offspring?
Need a little more of this kind of cheeky feminist provocation: a frank and unapologetic assertion that the lives patriarchy prescribes for women are in many ways joyless, claustrophobic, and intellectually vacant.

Men can and will learn to adjust to a world where women are their equals. I have no doubt of that. It will likely take a period of adjustment, and some will find it disturbing. But the most obvious thing that needs to happen is power needs to be rebalanced. In finance, in politics, socially.

You can gain political power, you can use violence against folks who oppose you. But that will never make you cool or worthy of respect. Even if you force folks to stop laughing at you in public, you can be certain they’ll be laughing in private.
"I'm tired of being the butt of jokes and scorn because I'm a conservative woman and a mother."
Once again, I am disgusted with my state governor and legislature. Framing queer inclusion as “divisive” and homophobia as “neutral” is all too typical.
“As tired as Utahns are of politically divisive symbols, I think they are also tired of culture war bills that don’t solve the problems they intend to fix,” the governor wrote. Cox went on to say that despite his concerns, he supports the bill’s professed goal of making classrooms “neutral” spaces.

as it turns out there are worse options than hypocrisy, politically speaking
We can discuss how self-serving it was, but I do think it was valuable that Americans *used* to think that we *should* be a force for good and be willing to reach out and help. Beyond soft power, it was a good thing folks would expect us to send aid, to organize around it and to offer support.
Why the fuck would anyone want to bring kids into this dystopia you and your billionaire pals have created?
Baier: What's the biggest thing that keeps you up at night? Musk: The birth rate is very low in almost every country. And unless that changes, civilization will disappear. America had the lowest birth rate

Not gonna pretend like I know anything about Carney’s politics because I don’t, but I watched his speech yesterday and he essentially told Trump to fuck off and now Trump’s speaking about him with a modicum of respect. I feel like there’s a lesson in there somewhere.
Trump drops the demeaning "governor" stuff and calls Carney by his correct title

Here’s a slightly new flavor of American exceptionalism. Like: I agree that it would be much better for the world if the US wasn’t becoming a fascist theocracy. But it absolutely *can* become one.
The United States is the one place that simply cannot become a fascist theocracy. If that happens, fascism will spread, unhindered, around the world.
It was a big mistake to let “Nazis” come to be imagined as these over-the-top-evil monsters who reside safely in the past rather than as people who follow an ideology that’s all similar to things many contemporary people believe.
The entire thread is like this, nazis asking for a summary of their posts, the AI says "Well it sure as shit looks like you're a nazi", then they argue with each response and it just goes into more detail why they're nazis
I don’t think merely fighting in the courts and in congress will be enough anymore.
Trump cannot unilaterally end collective bargaining for federal workers. We know when people organize and collectively bargain, wages go up, and working conditions improve. We will fight this decision in the courts and in Congress. Unions make America strong.
Article about James Dobson’s early-career ties with eugenicists. Many similarities between what he taught about discipline within the Christian Patriarchal White Family and ABA techniques used to “normalize” autistic kids. The child isn’t a person to be nurtured but a creature to be trained.
On this day 48 years ago, James Dobson started the organization Focus on the Family as a part of a positive eugenics movement aimed at helping Christian parents discipline their children into immediate compliance with authority.
