People have been asking a lot of questions about Alberta's recent referendum. We got @foldablehuman.bsky.social on board and did our best to answer them. youtu.be/I5OeFqehZzc

Redding's "Space Cruiser" patent: www.freepatentsonline.com/6257527.pdf It's a single-pilot 8m long conical spaceplane with enough dV to perform a plane change and missions like intercepting Soviet satellites. Mass 4500 kg, with a multitude of launch option including off the back of an SR-71.
Banging the same drum as always: removing or hiding public space records hurts every part of the space industry. Every working space engineer or scientist has found the answer to some technical problem in an old file from 1972. Hiding info just forces everyone to reinvent the wheel every time.

Very interesting DSP (and processing) photos, and until better quality photos get released here an attempt to clean them up a bit.
The last of the Defense Support Program satellites were recently retired by the Space Force, but the program still has many unanswered questions. That includes mysteries created by newly discovered photos of one DSP satellite. www.thespacereview.com/article/5337/1

Thank you @nik-proxima.bsky.social for teaching us about an incredible quote
New episode up! Fresh off of talking Call of Duty and space nukes, we had @nik-proxima.bsky.social on again for a discussion on the nightmare that is Space Policy, all focusing around the ISS. How it came together, how it kept working through the decades, and how it probably couldn't happen today.

The varying estimates given yesterday for the number of refueling flights needed for a Starship lunar lander mission could be summarized (with apologies to Chicago) as "22 or 6 to 8".
NASA advisers raise new concerns about Artemis lunar landing plans Ahead of a NASA update on its Artemis lunar exploration plans, the agency’s safety advisers expressed concerns about the maturity of those plans....

Space Rider has been a long time coming, although it seems like spaceplanes and other lifting bodies have had quite the challenge to service entry.
Exclusive: ESA has confirmed that a full-scale Space Rider test model was lost following a failed drop test earlier this month. europeanspaceflight.com/space-rider-...

This is just bonkers, 100% full-goose bozo. NASA has better things to spend its time, resources, and people on.
'"We're not even supposed to use AI as a term ... it's being talked about like Voldemort or Macbeth, with people calling it 'the technology that must not be named,'" the NASA employee said.' How much money is being wasted on this nonsense? www.space.com/technology/w...

And Lift Off! A glorious launch of #MMX, the start of an amazingly awesome 5 yr round trip to Mars' moon Phobos. 1yr to get there, 3yrs exploration landing on the surface (twice), then 1yr to get home with the bounty (2tbls of Phobos dust), arriving in the Australian outback in 2031! 🥳🔭🧪🛰️🚀

Bit delayed but we've got the video version of our episode with @postoctobrist.bsky.social up! All the classic fun of the early Chinese space program (open gang warfare, assassinations over office politics) and the very dumb way that China's first crewed space program died.

I’m sorry to have to be the bad guy here but we need to recognize that we live in a compressed air thrusters world now. If you’re not finding ways to teach the critical use of compressed air thrusters in your classroom, you’re setting your students up to fail when you could be setting them up to fly

This blog post has never excited much interest, but it's one of my favorites. It discusses the history of the Soyuz spacecraft and describes a little-known November 1992 US/Russian tour of potential space station lifeboat landing sites in Australia. spaceflighthistory.blogspot.com/2015/03/inte...
New bonus episode! Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 had 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 mission. You know the one. I'm obviously talking about the one where you help a British dude nuke and destroy the ISS by accident. We talked to space policy knower @nik-proxima.bsky.social to see how exactly illegal nuking the ISS would be.
We were already excited for KSA (especially with how many ex-KSP folks they have working on it) and thia is great news

Very good episode of FTL and of course topical and pertinent to our moment. (Go support them on Patreon etc. instead of using this Spotify link.)
New episode! The modern space industry is dominated by billionaires, reactionaries, and out-and-open fascists. So we sat down with @thebigzeo.bsky.social to figure out what makes them tick. Turns out it's weird fanfiction and not understanding classic scifi.

We've got a new episode up: We're taking a look at the 1947 war crimes trial of Mittelwerk director Georg Rickhey and how American Operation Paperclip staff lied and destroyed evidence to make sure their charges never faced justice for their crimes.
