Altered Beast is simple yet kind of addictive ngl It's definitely a product of its time, but i'd say it plays well and the transformation gimmick is fun. The whole element where you gotta be transformed before fighting the boss or else the level keeps going is interesting

Altered Beast for PS2. It’s so terrible that Sega decided not to release it in America, but it came out here. It’s hilariously dumb, the combat is boring, and I had to use an action replay to finish it but you can unlock a bear transformation that farts petrifying gas, so A+

So we all agree that the creatives for the transphobic wizard school movies lifted the design for VM from Altered Beast right?

It is now 9 years since Sonic Mania came out 😱... another trivia nugget: at one point we had a screen that showed you the animals that were inside the Heavies giving them their personalities! It didn't make the cut (maybe didn't comply with brand guidelines or there wasn't enough time IDK)
