Started a Torchwood rewatch since it's 20 years old this month (!!!) and it's still wild to me that people were like y'know what Doctor Who needs? A spinoff with blood and swearing and gay sex. Also we're canonizing that there is nothing but a scary black nothingness after death. Iconic decision.

"how am I supposed to explain this to my kids?" except it's not about the homosexuality, but about how none of their beloved deceased Doctor Who characters went to heaven because heaven doesn't exist in Doctor Who.

Incredibly wholesome superstore interaction earlier where a mom and her kid approached me at checkout and the mom was like "do you want to tell them what you told me earlier in the aisle, about how much you loved their earrings?" (no, kid was too shy but I got the message anyway ❤️)

and yes, I did successfully get they/them-ed by a stranger in public, which is a nice cherry on top (or strawberry, rather, they're strawberry earrings). Hit that sweet spot where my outfit is androgynous enough and the person is woke (said with affection) enough to pick up what I'm putting down.

This is indefensible behaviour from Everwind. The research done by this reddit poster on the issue is worth your time. The link to the thread www.reddit.com/r/halifax/co... - The Halifax Examiner is one of the last true resources we have for journalism in Nova Scotia. Disgusting.

What's weirder, adults going no contact with their parents, or (in my mother's case) kicking your adult children out of your house during COVID lockdown for being too woke or something, but still expecting to have friendly chats with those children over the phone afterwards with no consequences?

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

It's not a crime to force your 22-year-old to move out, I'm aware, but I'm just thankful CERB existed at the time to keep me and my younger brother on our feet until my new job started. I really don't know what I would've done otherwise. It was a scary time to move out on short notice, adult or not.

If we randomly have an insane heat wave before Halloween just know that it was my fault for finally removing my window air conditioner just now.

The forms warn that the trial is in French and I should excuse myself if I don't understand French. I do understand French well enough, but idk if I've achieved "giving someone a fair jury trial" level. But I guess that will be for selection to decide.

Every time I think r/halifax can't get more brazenly racist they take that as a challenge. Yes, we're totally being flooded with rich baby-killing immigrants and the press is failing to cover it

Missed Coming Out Day but time is fake so: shoutout to the asshole sitting beside me at a hockey game one time that made me accidentally come out to my mother. He was lamenting about how *my* generation, especially the men, were apparently not learning to drive anymore and how it was concerning.

He asked how I'd be able to live, if both me and my future husband couldn't drive. I was too frustrated to argue anymore about the driving thing that I was just like, who cares man. I'm gay so maybe my future wife has better odds of having a license. This is how my mother found out (oops, lol).

Fast forward a year later and I'd been kicked out of my mother's house for reasons that aren't directly related, but are also not entirely unrelated. An extra happy Coming Out Day to her specifically. Enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend all alone again this year, you right-wing ghoul!

I love the movies and am generally open to fun gimmicks but I feel like screenx perhaps isn't a very good format. The surround screens somehow make me MORE aware I'm in a theatre. I'm glad I saw Resident Evil in standard format first!

I'll admit it wasn't looking good early on when it made me kinda motion sick during the hospital bit (no action yet! Just walking in halls!). But then I was like, I bet having the peripherals will be GREAT during the cop car scene. But nah not really. I was really hoping it would gel with me! Bummer

People will see you sitting on a park bench enjoying the beautiful weather and be like I have GOT to light up a smoke right beside you.

Throwing billions in public money behind a pipeline at a time of climate breakdown – while sweeping aside environmental protections, meaningful Indigenous consultation and workers’ right to strike – is absolutely not in the national interest.

Yay fare capping!

Halifax Transit has launched new features in the HFXGO mobile fare payment app that will make paying for transit easier and help riders receive the lowest fare possible. Details: buff.ly/yO4afP6

It was both cost- and time-effective. In order for transit to be used, that's where the trade-off needs to be. For folks with income or accessibility that doesn't support a private vehicle, in HRM, the second level of poverty added becomes time-poverty with this transit system. 4/

I went to the motor museum today for the Bangladesh Festival (had a great time) and was surprised they still had a lot of the cars and displays up in the main area to look at. Delighted to see the sunken volvos got a mention in the local history timeline.

Was it wild and kind of awful that this was allowed to happen? Of course. But it's my favourite fun fact to tell visitors. No one expects the basin volvos

Every single person in my team besides me works in Toronto (I'm remote) and they're currently being bullied back to office full time. It takes all of my willpower to not make jokes every time my manager (understandably) doesn't mention I'm the exception when telling everyone attendance is mandatory

I just think they may not enjoy it if I said "sorry guys I may be late into the office tomorrow I have one hell of a commute" every time.

Our policy on this is so screwed up: there is a constant drumbeat of PSAs to “put down the phone”, “don’t text and drive” etc, combined with a stream of technological innovations that encourage more and more phone use in the car, and there is no coherent attempt at reconciling them.
