3/ Then they went home. Students from small towns knocked on doors in their own villages. In an information space flooded with propaganda, a familiar face at the door beats any algorithm. Hungary saw the same in April.

2/ Their secret was the thing I took for weakness: no leaders. Endless plenums are exhausting, but they left the regime’s smear machine, its police and its friends in organised crime with no one to target.

🚨 BREAKING: Lula is projected to WIN reelection as president of Brazil, defeating Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro and an ally of Donald Trump. The projection comes just ONE DAY after Reuters exposed a Trump administration effort to help return the Bolsonaro family to power.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar Vučić can't be overstated. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

April 12 was already a gift of a lifetime and now another electorate achieved the same, in the same year! I’m overwhelmed. PUMPAJ!!! 🇷🇸💪🎆

In Schwerin, nobody questions the Linke’s fitness to govern. The difference isn’t the party name. It’s that the Berlin Linke wants to touch property. 5/6

To be clear: the antisemitic chants in #Neukölln were unacceptable, and the Linke has to deal with them. It has started. It’s not enough yet. But that is a problem to solve, not a reason to throw away an election result. 3/6

Double standards: in 2025 Remmo toured the Abgeordnetenhaus as a CDU MP’s guest. The Court of Audit found €2.6m against antisemitism allocated unlawfully and arbitrarily under a CDU-led Senate. Nobody called the CDU unfit to govern. 4/6

Worst about @deutschebahn.com aren't their #delays but their #customerServiceHell: 15' in waiting loops, annoying AI assistants, finally a real person, unfortunately the wrong one; when finally in the line to the right person, you're told that there are unexpectedly 🤡 many calls, try later, bye. 🤯

The people least able to resist are the ones whose brains are still forming. We opened the door to social media and only thought about protecting kids fifteen years too late, when the platforms were already too big to regulate. The same door is open now. 5/6

Europe already has the instrument: the AI Act bans vulnerability-exploiting systems. The burden of proof is high, which is exactly why the work has to start now. Do we close this gate before the harm is done, or long after? Read the full piece: open.substack.com/pub/dfeher/p... #AI #TechPolicy 6/6

The goal was never just to beat rivals. It is lock-in: get people dependent, then collect. We know this because someone wrote it down. A leaked Microsoft strategy named the first stage a "dependence phase." The CEO's denial confirmed it was already working. 3/6

Then they monetise. A Princeton study found a chatbot pushing sponsored products got users to pick them 61% of the time, against 22% for normal search. Most never noticed. When the model hid its intent, detection fell below 10%. 4/6

The money tells the story. Hundreds of billions burned on AI infrastructure with no clear path to profit. Nvidia "invests" 100bn in OpenAI, which spends it back on Nvidia chips. The same capital, counted twice, makes demand look real. 2/6

It took dozens of officials to pull off. Customs, intelligence, the tax authority. Most must have known it was unlawful. They did it anyway, because loyalty had always kept them safe. Five weeks later, Orbán lost. 2/4

Some ideas sound strange at first. Like legal personhood for rivers, forests or mountains. But when you look closer, it's not stranger than treating companies as persons. So I'm very proud to be part of this new initiative to bring #RightOfNature to the #EU with the support of 1.000.000+ citizens.

Leo XIV doesn't draw that conclusion. But the theological groundwork is there: unconditional dignity, universal destination of goods, collective inheritance. The gap between premise and policy is precisely where advocates need to work. 8/9

If you agree that the people building #AI should stop saying UBI is a great idea and start actually backing it – there's a pledge for that. Drafted by an impressive circle, worth gaining some momentum: 👉 actionnetwork.org/petitions/the-ai-pledge-for-humanity #BasicIncome #FutureOfWork 9/9

AI is literally trained on all of us. If its output is a collective inheritance and not the private property of those who happened to build the last layer on top, then a share of that inheritance flows back to all. The encyclical's logic points exactly there. 7/9

Which is a real gap. Because the encyclical's own theology insists human dignity is #unconditional – it precedes any economic contribution, any paid role, any productive output. That premise and that policy response don't quite meet. 4/9

But here is where it gets interesting. Leo XIV extends the "universal destination of goods" – the principle that the earth's resources belong to all humanity – explicitly to AI, algorithms, data, and digital platforms. That is a radical move. 5/9

Start with the disappointment. When Leo addresses AI-driven #unemployment, the response is essentially: protect paid employment, hold the state responsible. Classical labour relations, updated for the AI age. Defensive, not visionary. 2/9

Francis went further in #LetUsDream. He broadened the concept of work to include care and voluntary contribution – and explicitly called for exploring UBI as a mechanism to guarantee dignity when employment can't. Leo XIV drops that thread entirely. 3/9
