Wee reminder that we are DOING A THING in November, do come! www.nch.ie/all-events-l...

I would like to register a complaint to whoever snuck into my house and filled my sinuses with cement.

Extremely random Dublin people request: does anyone have an old gramophone they would be willing to lend for a week or so at the end of November? #speirghorm

Throughout the entire Fare Hike saga, Government maintained this was a decision by the NTA We now know it was the Dept of Public Expenditure & it was decided 12 months ago Government lied to to the public, the did it repeatedly, & they did it intentionally

Another lovely Dublin restaurant falls victim to high costs and bloody landlords. ☹️

People joining the long running soap opera that is Ireland may wonder who this Jim O'Callaghan fellow is. Well, good news, I have a quick explainer that I wrote in July that will give you all the flavour you need. www.thegist.ie/the-gist-who...

This, from the hugely experienced Irish courts reporter, Isabel Hayes, on the Minister for Justice’s performative outrage over an ad about children and consent, is worth reading.

I am reading a gothic novel set in nineteenth century Brazil and now finding it very hard not to envisage all the characters being played by @misterabk.bsky.social

One of my less bright moments was watching this and there is a moment where Magneto says to Professor X that JFK is one of us, which my brain immediately translated to "wait, are the X-Men Catholic?"

I’m in my late 50s. I’m really glad we’re having discussions around consent. I don’t think resistance to it is about age. And of course it isn’t just about sex: if you don’t want me to boop your nose, I’ll be sure not to boop your nose Imagine continuing to boop…To make *yourself* comfortable?

And another thing, I feel like anyone who has an active real life role in the rearing of children knows that the whole "you don't have to be touched if you don't want to be" is the standard and has been for years

Fuck capitalism, and don’t buy things you don’t need. But also, please Santa … 🤷‍♂️

That the Government would knee-jerk themselves back to treating, as policy, children as the property of older family members who would have rights over them which would stand ahead of the rights of the child is a fresh new low in a week of novel depths.

Every gothic horror:

I always think that Marguerite (1907) by Henri Matisse looks like an underground/indie comic book published by Fantagraphics in the 1990s.

Reminds me of the great footnote from John Julius Norwich in his History of Venice

#speirgorm - de we know anyone involved in local politics/services who might be able to help a Swedish woman in acute need in the Rosslare area? She moved to Ireland over the weekend but her accommodation turned out to be a bluff, deposit and rent gone, she needs somewhere to stay urgently.

Attention humans of Dublin! I have updated my event listings spreadsheet. There are a lot of new additions, too many to list here. docs.google.com/spreadsheets... #DublinListings #DublinGigs #DublinEvents

Can report that this is incredibly delicious (and would probably work well with some kind of veggie mince too). www.theguardian.com/food/2026/oc...

I was on a “work” trip www.irishtimes.com/life-style/p...

Alfred Hitchcock's The Pigeons

Another one for #mathsweek2026! John Wilkins, in his book Mathematicall magick (1648), claims that if the gear in this illustration is turned one thousand times an hour, the sail at the top will be turned 1000000000000 times and move faster than a star. Impressive!

My finest ever work. I wrote it on a treadmill in a gym, recording each title, as I thought of them, into the notes app.

Ireland is cursed with a series of Taoiseachs that cannot read a room. Room illiteracy.

I, a member of the public, do not wish to see my fellow members of the public who teach my children, heal me if I am sick, who administer the state and so on left worse off due to inflation each year.
