Study after study has shown that higher rates of policing can actually harm social stability. You know what *has* shown to substantially improve social stability? Strengthening social services, educational opportunities, and labour power. But those actions decrease the power of the wealthy elite.

“In recent years, many Americans have decided that their country’s problem was that it had too many police officers, when in fact its problem was that it had too few,” Malcolm Gladwell writes:

There will be a lot of equivocating about all the times search warrants have been executed on members of Congress for corruption investigations and the like, and it can't be stressed enough in how many ways HSI raiding Ilhan Omar is extremely not like that.

A recap: the FBI was probing a potential bribery scheme in Congress until Trump gutted the bureau. Martin Kao, an ex-govt contractor facing prison, told the FBI he traded campaign donations for military contracts. Agents corroborated parts of his story and launched an investigation.

Maine is so sparsely populated that many of the tactics that worked in Chicago and Minneapolis just take too many people

This difference is especially stark at a time when the national media has zeroed in on a tiny group of LGBTQ people over interpersonal conflict versus a group of young men who have also been publicly identified over the alleged crime of gang rape

I cannot stress how important it is to actually make sure this story gets to as many Maine voters as possible. I have routinely spoken with voters over the past few months who still have very little understanding of just how deceitful Collins is despite the facts. That needs to change! #mepolitics

ProPublica@propublica.org

Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign. The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers. Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵

Collins should resign immediately, suspend her campaign, and be charged. But we all know she won't, so it's even more important that Troy Jackson win in november

Abortion is healthcare. That’s common sense to me. But Susan Collins helped give us a Supreme Court that overturned Roe — and today, a majority of the US Senate still stands in the way of restoring abortion rights nationwide. Let's flip the Senate and restore Roe. That starts right here in Maine.

I want to be very clear, even if the science of HRT didn't show that trans people didn't perform more like cis people of their chosen genders, this whole drama is an intentional distraction and grift. It started with a player for a team with reactionary fans dipping her toe into the RW media grift

Dumbest part of the story: ICE didn't even have the streets close to right when they called 911

Seeing Susan Collins announce that all ICE "officers" in Maine now have body cameras like its some sort of victory really highlights how much of a failure she has been. Those cameras will magically not work or the footage will simply not be released to the public. It is not a victory. #mepolitics

Republicans are bringing a so-called congressional stock trading ban to the floor, but it’s really a voter suppression bill in disguise. It protects insider trading while making it harder for Americans to vote.
