Had my panel on how libraries and bookstores fit into the author world and people were so excited for it! I was shocked by how many people came and how many folks had questions after. It was a good time. 😁 Maybe more librarians and bookstores fit into folks need to talk at these things. 😁

And trying out mochi dessert from Mochitsuki. The recipes have been super easy so far — lemon butter mochi and Matcha Latte Chi Chi Dango #cookbooks

Really enjoying this Korean Cocktails book that’s playing with fun flavors like ganjang, Jeju chocolate, and nurunji. (Not that I had the fancy soju suggested for the Jeju one, but maybe after we finally get that family trip together to visit my 이모들 there… #cookbooks

I do think a lot about how certain library leaders' pressure to use Amazon as our Baker & Taylor replacement will truly affect libraries as a whole...

No matter where you shop, you're getting screwed by Amazon. Amazon has found a way to make everything you buy - at Target, at a mom-and-pop shop, even direct from the manufacturer - more expensive. And they're not the only one: Expedia's done the same thing, but for hotel rooms.

I have been reading a lot! Meridian 😭❤️😭 Goma🦁🚂🪰 Kokoro😺😼😿 Lost Souls😈🔮💰 Kiss Slay Replay👰‍♀️🔪👰‍♀️ (love/grief through stories and time, god-touched animal attacks at a railroad construction camp, cat prescriptions and secrets, an accidental deal with the devil, wedding murder time loop) #booksky

I love seeing what my colleagues around the country choose! And... I'm already thinking about what December reads I want to nominate. Any suggestions for me to read real quick? 😁

It's LibraryReads Day! Here are the Top 10 books that library workers across the USA voted as their favorites coming out in November 2026. A special congratulations to our Top Pick, CAPTIVE TRAITOR KING: A NOVEL by Brigid Kemmerer! Which will *you* read next??

Oh that terrible feeling when you’re fully invested in a book and then take the tiniest moment to breathe… see there’s 9% left… and now there’s no way the story is wrapping up in that time. Surprise series! 😭😭😭 (ugh, but soooo good and I’ll talk about it soon)

Juddered. I find it fascinating when a different word gets popular in writing somehow or another and it’s suddenly ever. I’d swear half the books I’ve read this use juddered, which never felt like a common word before? Both my current audio and print books just used it too. 😅

About halfway through, but absolutely riveted and sad it’s a work night so I have to stop reading. Considering it follows a Matthew (not a Matt) who lost his husband early and is deeply in grief years later, I was primed to be invested!

At this point, their love story slides from the future into a story into a story… and it’s unclear if this is fiction for them or other lives or versions of them.

I don’t think I’ve ever rooted for a murderous creature (TBF she’s not human and we’re prey) to win the love OR eat the object of her affection so much before. (maybe AND) But seriously, Jenny is such a wonderful character navigating the human world with new mythical friends by her side. #booksky

It absolutely succeeds as horror and romance with a dash of fantasy! Be prepared for heart clutching, “Aw that’s so sweet”s punctuated with finger bones crunching between her teeth. I’d wish Jenny all the best, even if it’s maybe dangerous to visit Boston when ages in residence.

And a few more queued up from Edelweiss: IT'S ONLY A GAME by Sam Rebelein, THE FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST by Mindy McGinnis (I loved her YA -- curious what her adult will be like!), RAVENOUS by Mark D Freeman (yay animal attacks!), and WHERE FIRE REIGNS by Jared Pechaček. #ewgc #booksky

Edelweiss downloads of translated books I'm super excited for: A MOUTH FULL OF FINS by Cho Yeeun, THE FINAL SIX by Akinari Asakura, THE MOUNTAIN by Nanami Kamon, and THE SOUL CATCHERS by Naoko Higashi. #ewgc #booksky

BONES OF JADE, FLESH LIKE ICE by Gracie Marsden (a fellow librarian!) is a Taiwanese inspired fantasy. A jing's promise causes a young girl to be sold into a harsh life, but she manages to find love and happiness. When tragedy strikes, she decides to risk a jing's bargain on her own behalf. #ewgc

Baek Seungyeon's THE SEOUL LETTER SHOP trans by Clare Richards, follows a woman refusing to read her sister's apology letters who gets a job in a letter shop. Her new community gives her a place to rest and recover even as she facilitates their own communications and growth. #ewgc #booksky

Piergiorgio Pulixi's THE BLACK CATS BOOKSHOP, trans by Antony Shugaar, stars a cranky bookseller & his mystery book club members investigating a killer who forced a man to choose whether his wife or son would be shot in the head. Fun for the clever mystery and the bookseller sarcasm. #ewgc #booksky

Starting off with Johnny Compton's CHIMERA SKIN, where a cosmic being's gift to humanity has monstrous consequences instead of enlightening us. One such twisted figure manages to keep his mind and struggles to protect his community from those who'd infect it. #ewgc #booksky

Just finished this clever and endearing mystery novel about a book club using their analytical skills to catch a murderer who forces his victims to choose which family members will die before their eyes. And look at that -- Goodreads has a giveaway! www.goodreads.com/book/show/25... #booksky

* Booksellers and librarians may get an extra kick out of the incredibly cranky indie bookstore owner and his sheer rage at people coming in to ask for the book on tv yesterday with the yellow cover or titles mangled into unrecognizability (or hilarity).

Official announcement for ENEMIES TO WORSE, coming to you as a villaintine February 9th 2027, a novella in audiobook and ebook, set in the LONG LIVE EVIL world but also stands alone for those who might enjoy ‘Romeo and Juliet if Romeo fell for Tybalt’ fantasy ice raiders. #booksky

One of my favorite events, so I am a little bummed it's on a day I'm presenting at Bouchercon BUT they record everything and give you months to watch it! While it is aimed towards librarians, every time I've moderated they've pointed out non-librarians will enjoy the author talks too. 😁

Free and Virtual @libraryjournal.bsky.social's Day of Dialog is coming 10/22. A great day of authors talking about their upcoming books including a horror panel featuring me. Details and how to sign up: raforall.blogspot.com/2026/09/libr...

Also, I know several of the moderators and promise you they rock! And the authors! Alyssa Cole, S.A. Cosby, Wiley Cash, and Caitlin Doughty are some of my favorites!

Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt is a lie of a title. 🤣 Actually, just a half-truth. It WAS beautiful, following a kind reaper about his duties even as his work could seem random and unfair… but if Travis showed up my last day I’d probably be pretty content. But dang this hurt. #booksky

Tried two cocktails from The GOTO Bartender’s Guide and both were super tasty. One involved making hojicha infused vodka and I’ve got to say the Hojicha Milk Punch is dangerously delicious. (The Kyoto Old Fashioned was delicious as well — just easier to sip in moderation 😅) #cookbooks
