Join us in a fun, crazy and interesting interdisciplinary research project that combines protein biophysics, evolutionary genomics, biomolecular archaeology, and textile research to resolve species identity and post-translational modifications in the structural proteins collagen and keratin

🚨 HEADS UP: If you haven't submitted a comment on the OMB proposal yet, there's still time - but it's running out! There are only 2 days left to push back against Russell Vought's attempt to give political appointees unprecedented control over federal research funding. Take Action: zurl.co/qTjQP

Did you write your comment yet on the OMB rules on federally funded science yet? No? Don’t worry, you can do it this weekend. Here are some resources that can help you get started.

Put my public comment in yesterday- still a couple of days left - make sure to read up on the how to personalize and mention specific provisions that will impact your research.

There's an OMB rule change that would require political oversight of scientific grants, and could pull any that don't "reflect presidential priorities" Another country has tried this before! It was the USSR and it was called Lysenkoism. By @thsaey.bsky.social www.sciencenews.org/article/omb-...

If the proposed OMB rules pass, the Trump admin could strip funding for scientific researchers at any time if they decide a project no longer fits the "national interest.” Have you filed a comment yet? The deadline is Monday, July 13. #AcademicSky

Check out Elizabeth Ginexi's excellent breakdown of the OMB's proposed changes to the federal grant rules: open.substack.com/pub/elizabet... Public comments close Monday, 6/13, so we're holding a drop-in Comment-a-Thon tomorrow on Zoom and writing comments together. Message us for the link!

What is coming for #SDRF is huge; we have managed in 20 templates most of the relevant experimental design in #proteomics, including non-MS; #crosslinking, #metaproteomics (soil, water, human gut), DIA/DDA; clinical metadata, oncology proteomics; and single cell #SCP github.com/bigbio/sdrf-...

Acquisition news for bottom up and top down proteomics with Thermo acquiring Proteinaceous and MSAID. Proteinaceous was founded in 2016 (possibly earlier) as a spin out from Neil Kelleher’s lab at Northwestern. MSAID was spun out from Mathias Wilhelm and Bernhardt Kuster’s labs in 2019.

Anyone else having issues getting an affinity proteomics (olink) repository upload to go through on the pride gui? I'm getting an error on the last step that it's not the right file type, but it's the NPX output csv. @pride-ebi.bsky.social #teammassspec #proteomics

So happy to hear this @sciex.bsky.social !

This is great news, and I hope all vendors continue to support THE vendor neutral option for MS data. Regardless, it was a shame that Skyline went without funding for a year from SCIEX My dream is that Skyline is funded by all vendors continuously. All of #teammassspec benefits from the arrangement

#AminoAcidAdvent Day 1: Proline The kinkiest of amino acids (NSFW!), synthesized from glutamic acid, and some even call it the simplest "enzyme". Regardless, its a pro move to include the hydroxyproline variable mod if your abundant proteins have collagen domains... really, do this.

IUSM center for proteome analysis working with the excellent @baucumlab.bsky.social yet again for #teammassspec!💓

Excited to share our work on spinophilin and the dopamine D2 receptor is in press at the Journal for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. Great work by Basant Hens and @fireinlab.bsky.social and Whitney Smith-Kinneman in the proteomics core. Support from #SNRI and #BMBP at #IUSM

First copies of my book are here!! As a new faculty member, I realized that in addition to my research job, I also had a leadership job…and I wasn’t prepared for that. This book is the guide I wish I’d had then, with the goal of helping others now.   jenheemstra.com/book

Hooo boy- this is incredibly concerning. It appears the Central Indiana Land Trust donated this sensitive wetland along Bell’s Creek at 42nd and Mitthoefer to Phalen (a charter school), who is now planning to build their football stadium on top of it.

I love my neighborhood and the people fighting for the good stuff in it.

Looking at the People for Bikes BNA you can clearly see where @jesseforindy.bsky.social district is. Cool to have a councilor that cares about this stuff.

Quick PSA: If you are planning a trip to Fairbanks this upcoming aurora season, the extra hours of darkness in Dec-Jan likely won't help you. In Fairbanks under quiet conditions, auroras usually don't start to appear until 9-10 pm.

I'm working on a quickstart guide for people who want to plant native plants, but don't know all the things to consider when choosing plants. I think this is inherently challenging due to the absolute mountain of caveats that goes into doing this properly. However. Here's where we're at.
