So, I’ve been working in games professionally for 26 years now. I wrote up a whole series on it last year, and this year I collected them into an article: www.linkedin.com/posts/michae... Next year, I’ll need to do it again to work in Thick As Thieves.

linkedin.comA Few Highlights of the Show So Far | Michael FitchIt's been 26 years now that I've been working in the game industry. I collected up the career retrospective series of posts I made last year into this handy-dandy article that will be easier to refer...

So, everyone's been waiting for the bubble to pop, and the signs have start showing up that it's popping, but I didn't think it would be "Microsoft cuts a quarter of its staff" popping.

I've been struggling pretty hard the last couple of days. My wife asked if there was anything she could do, and I heard these words tumble out of my mouth: "It's just the existential dread. There's nothing to do for it but keep going." For anyone else who's going through it.

I really wish that saying things that are provably wrong were disqualifying for the pundit class. Just terrible take after terrible take, no accountability whatsoever. The people who speak nonsense need to shut up.

"I am not responsible for the version of myself that someone else created in their mind" is the most powerful life lesson I've ever learned.

Maybe it makes me a credentialist, but I hate how we constantly elevate guys like Yglesias — who have no relevant education or work experience. In politics, he's never run for office, worked on a campaign or served as an appointee. On policy, he has a BA and has never worked in government.

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

I had a dream that a bunch of companies that were failing hired me to help. I ended up firing all the CEOs who were each making millions and it saved the companies. I wonder what it means.

Just a quick reminder that more Republican congressmen have had to step down due to sexually-oriented crimes than there are trans people trying to compete in the NCAA. Seems like the legislative priorities are askew. One of these bodies certainly needs to be policed.

The fear of "someone will steal my idea", has been a real fear in indie spaces for years, but it's never been a real issue because the idea is worth basically nothing. It's execution that counts - What can you create from that idea that is uniquely compelling to an audience?

Monopoly power and politics of code means Gen Ai makes the user legible without ever becoming legible to the user. (In fact thats AI’s entire value proposition — make know without being known.) Literacy cannot overcome that kind of architecture of secrecy.

Hyper enthusiast, price-insensitive players are really keeping things going, especially in the non f2p gaming space. According to Circana's Q3 2025 Future of Games, only 4% of US video game players buy a new game more often than once per month, with a third of players not buying any games at all.

What would you expect to see right before a bubble pops? I would expect a lot of invested people to vehemently deny that any world where the bubble pops is possible. If it’s unthinkable, you have to ask, “Why?”

Your daily reminder that more people are playing and buying PC games than ever before. This is a growing industry. The only reason the industry is struggling is because the people are the top are vacuuming up all the money made to divert it to AI in an unhinged all-in multi-trillion-dollar gamble.

There was a time when a sitting President getting his followers to cheer for the nuclear annihilation of Los Angeles would have been a scandal. What is the term for someone who advocates violence against their own citizens?

“Remember, with the war it's just artificial. It's a little bit high, it's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city, let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. That's, this is a very small price to pay” - Donald Trump
