Fun reminder not to platform election deniers. This isn’t just me being a scold, it’s literally best practices all the democracy defense orgs advocate this year. It’s hard for me to ignore too but I’m trying hard to do it!

They also did a high risk PIT maneuver on a busy corner of Lake Street last night that led to this - which used to be a bike rack. It was extremely lucky no pedestrians were hit.

the hennepin county sheriff deputies are ramming stolen cars on nicollet ave in whittier someone just asked a deputy who “the others” were on his patch. “me,” he said “the auto task force thanks you for your cooperation,” a vehicle played on a recording as it left

I have refused to use the term “Somali gangs” despite tremendous pressure. Why? It’s a political narrative, not an accurate descriptor of gun violence, even if it was committed by a Somali youth. Who is driving this narrative? Republicans, the Strib, and police. Brilliant reporting below.

DEEP DIVE is up! How the Star Tribune turned Republican “Somali gangs” rhetoric into an election-year crime narrative—and helped give demands for expanded local, state, and federal enforcement the authority of news.

I took extra joy in voting for dear friends (and champions for our schools!) @christin-with-mpls.bsky.social and @shannon-for-d3.bsky.social , and was delighted to see my college classmate Andy Tweeten up for re-election as a Hennepin County Judge.

Minneapolis Early Voting remains an absolute joy. We went after work yesterday at Elections HQ and had zero line or wait, despite a steady stream of voters.

Every day between now and Election Day Eve, Minneapolis residents can vote at HQ in NE Mpls, at the North Early Vote Center at the Urban League building on N. Plymouth, or the South Early Vote Center at Bethel Lutheran. (Hennepin County Early Vote Center downtown has slightly different hours).

New wrong Facebook election meme. Every ballot in a Minnesota polling place has handwriting on it - two judges’ initials, required by state law. If you doink it for this reason you‘re just wasting our time (perhaps the point of the meme-maker). Call out this wrongness if you see it in your feeds.

We’re really having a normal one in Minneapolis. A prominent local Ed reform advocate is comparing the diverse coalition of families - who gave hours of public testimony to demand a racial equity study before closing 16 schools- to (checks notes) the January 6 rioters at the US Capitol.

Here’s the thing (and I know I’ll catch some heat for this). I’m going to hold my nose and vote for Amy. And it’s taken me months to get to that point. But I think a progressive legislature can get things done with theoretical Gov AKlo. And that’s not true with theoretical Gov DeMuth.

The President can say what he wants about trans care in Minnesota. But I believe in a state where we *all* belong. Where we stand by our neighbors. Where we protect our rights to make choices about our bodies, lives, and futures. Let's protect those rights and our state with our votes this fall.

Keep pushing about Evie/HourCar- my reps office here in St Paul says they may have half to cover the shortfall and are in talks with Minneapolis on how to retain this incredible service.

Minneapolis is strongest when we stand together. We are ready to do the hard work to bring families back to MPS, to convince the legislature to fully fund our schools, and to make sure our communities are safe.

These proposals represent giving up on our district and our schools. And that is NOT acceptable. We are ready to do the hard work of investing in our schools - are you?! -End-

When families didn’t know where else to turn, they turned to their schools. And their school communities wrapped them in love. Schools provided access to food, medical care, and rent assistance on a mass scale.

In the last year, we built connections across race, class, and language in a way I’ve never experienced before. These proposals callously suggest that we should break those bonds in the name of “optimization” And that’s not something we are going to do.

2.5 hours of testimony, tears, cheers, chants, and moments of humor. And every single person who spoke was opposed to or had questions about the fundamental assumptions of the Transformation Plan.

I got asked to post my speech- so here you are: I am an MPS parent. I spent the winter organizing my neighbors and neighbors across Minneapolis to support our neighbors. Here’s what we learned: public schools are the trusted heart of community.

Now a Roosevelt High student is speaking. A half dozen MPS high school students have spoken tonight, and I’m inspired. The kids are all right.

There is no remote option for participation on any of these meetings - several people have called out the accessibility issues.

Testimony is coming from every segment of the community - high school students, parents, teachers, and neighbors. A MPS alum came back from Hopkins to tell us about the trauma she and her South Minneapolis community experienced when Minneapolis Central closed in 1982.

This is so gross.

Like many Minnesotans, I was filmed by federal agents this winter. We must address the specific abuses of power that this administration has enabled *and* reckon with the broader surveillance state and culture we have allowed to flourish in the name of “safety.”

NEW: DHS agents tracked people observing ICE arrests, photographed them, ran their plates, pulled personal information, and added them to a Palantir database, according to newly unsealed court filings. w/ @regret.bsky.social

On top of all the terrible details about the proposed Minneapolis Public Schools “Transformation Plan,” is the abomination that it the AI powered version of the MPS “feedback survey.”

Less than 24 hours later and 3/4 mile away, a speeding car hit a tree so hard that the tree is blocking 35th and the car engine is smoking.

When we heard sirens down the block, I didn’t expect to see this. A car hit this lamppost so hard it fully detached from the base, landing in a busy bus stop outside two senior living facilities.

The City of Minneapolis appears to have replaced nearly all the stop signs in my neighborhood with brand new signs in the last two weeks.

Vote yes!

Vote yes! Passing the MN constitutional amendment on this year’s ballot will increase funding to all public schools including about $1,000,000 per year to Minneapolis Public Schools. Don’t skip it - leaving this question blank is the same as voting no. (PS - Edison scored!)
