I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.

So much to say about Brazil, not least of which is the role that Erika Hilton, a Black trans leader and most voted woman politician in Brazil, played in mobilizing folks for Lula. She was behind the critical, concrete, economic promise of shorter work-week. theprint.in/feature/erik...

theprint.inWho is Erika Hilton? Black trans politician was one of Lula’s loudest campaignersErika Hilton’s electoral triumph comes amid a hostile environment. Brazil has the highest number of reported murders of transgender people in the world, with 80 recorded in 2025.

"Since 2019, Minnesota’s MFCU has secured 358 convictions for Medicaid fraud and has won $90 million in judgments and recoveries...Minnesota’s MFCU has secured more convictions than any state in the country with a similarly sized Medicaid budget."

Big win for MN: the Court of Appeals reversed an acquittal in a $7.2 million Medicaid Fraud case, so now the jury’s guilty verdict stands as it always should have. Another example of how my fraud-fighting team will use *every option* to hold fraudsters accountable. www.ag.state.mn.us/Office/Commu...

Reupping this thread because I'm not sure who convinced a bunch of Democrats that the way out of authoritarianism is to concede on EQUAL RIGHTS, but I can *promise* that it won't work. It never has.

Erin Maye Quade@erinmayequade.bsky.social

If folks in the Democratic party cannot find it within themselves to be absolute staunch supporters of trans people's rights because trans people are people who have inherent worth, then they should at least do it because if we give up on trans people, then we're literally giving up on democracy.

"I am not asking any of my readers to vote Republican. I am not asking anyone to stay home and sit the election out. I am not asking my readers to abandon the Democratic Party. And I am not asking anyone to abstain from every Democratic politician [who has taken a bad stance]."

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

The elections are on next Tuesday, and so much is at stake, including the soul of the Democratic Party when it comes to transgender people. I am asking you to leave a very small number of races blank in which a Democrat has embraced extreme anti-trans hate. I make my case here.

This clarity and focus is a welcome shift to help trans voters solidify their positions with just over a week to go. I could talk around the edges about a hypothetical case for a couple of these candidates, but they're not my states, not my candidates; and there's real work to do.

Ultimately Democrats, especially Democratic leaders *will* need to answer for how their campaigns and those who win approached this cycle. We will need loud and proud champions to win as well and electeds and orgs to push hard once the dust settles so that this year becomes a blip and not a trend.

I am cognizant of my fears, rather than letting them spill out as angst and then doubling down on that angst. Because of that, I am able to make thoughtful choices about how to treat people and where to put my energy. It doesn't always play out perfectly, but it's better than running on impulse.

I get it. I am worried, and I have very real fears right now. We are entering a tremendously dangerous time. The GOP will do desperate things to influence the outcomes of the midterms, and after losing races. We have every reason to be on alert. But during dangerous times, we must be thoughtful.

A lot of people need to slow down and acknowledge to themselves that they're afraid, and this is affecting how they are interacting with other people. You have to acknowledge the reality of your feelings, or you won't control how they shape your behavior.

I know absolutely nothing about Lula except that i saw someone share a clip on insta of him in celebration kissing a trans woman politician on the cheek and oh my god is that a radical act for a politician in 2026 so lets fucking go

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Do. The. Work.

Adam Schwarz@adamjschwarz.bsky.social

So how did Lula come from behind to defeat Bolsonaro? In short, turnout. Bolsonaro's vote share barely moved. But Lula banked millions of votes from those who didn't vote in the first round & won eliminated candidates' votes. A remarkable mobilisation. Second round turnout is usually below first.

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Laura Bassett@lebassett.bsky.social

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Two wins for democracy in one day feels pretty great. Good work, Brazil 🇧🇷

Taniel@taniel.bsky.social

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

👀

Taniel@taniel.bsky.social

Lula has taken the overall, countrywide lead back. With 62% of precincts counted, he is ahead 50.6% to 49.4%, which is an edge of roughly 900,000 votes. He is also getting the shift he needs (compared to the first round) in virtually every state that has reported most of the vote.

If I ever become President, we're demolishing the new ballroom and turning it into a stark modernist memorial space (open to the public) on the emptiness of authoritarianism, doubling down on bringing *new* art and everyday people back into the people's house, and rewilding the WH front lawn.

Ash Chudghost 👻@chudgar.com

If I ever become President, the White House will look like Bob Ross asked a seventies houseplant-influencer couple to “make it groovier”

It's okay to be angry at bad leadership and broken systems *and* still vote & work within them - because we shouldn't cede any of the tools we can exercise power with. Let's keep anger pointed where it should be and give more energy to building forward and caring for each other along the way.

MMHMM.

the algorithm effect makes it so people are very activated against, say, the issue of data centers, but there is a lack of a self education being done on the topic of how local governments work to translate this motivation to make change into effective opposition, IMO

There is plenty of attention being paid to anti-trans campaigning, but how about actual, real-life trans people who are running (many of whom will win!)? There are dozens of Two Spirit, trans, and gender expansive folks on the ballot from US Rep down to municipal seats. Who are you excited about?

We can honor their memory—and also the memories of Marcia, Mary, Tom, and Will—by working to ensure that organized people can beat organized money once again in Minnesota.

Paul Wellstone's last campaign was my first.  I’m so grateful for the opportunities the young organizer in this photo was given because of Paul and Sheila.

Oh the discourse. Anyway. There are a lot of good people, organizations, and leaders who are working hard to organize and build trans power, to shift this landscape. That doesn't stop or start with any one election cycle. Find some work that matters to you and help grow it.

I have a pretty blunt assessment of how we exercise our voting rights just over a week out from an election. But mostly I have a lot of empathy for so many of my community members who are feeling the attacks from every angle. This will not be forever. Together we can build our way out of it

we have to think so much less about finding the right candidates and so much more about building political power that makes individual candidates simple stewards of the will of the bases they are accountable to

Very much lamenting my inability to be multiple places at once today; but getting to 3/5 is going to have to do! If I don’t see you out: 1. Go vote (and volunteer)! 2. Support Queer & Trans lives and work!
