The fact that the president's doctors are giving him the dementia test over and over again -- tracking his decline, most likely -- and that the president keeps bragging about having to take that test should be a five-alarm fire.
Trump: "You know, the first question -- they have a lion, a snake, a giraffe, and a bear. And they say 'which is the snake?' ... by the time you get to number five a lot of people are left out on the road ... I get no credit for it."

It features a huge ballroom with niches for portraits of the dictator and his wife and a sliding roof so that a helicopter can enter and exit. The building also had a nuclear bunker. The aesthetic sense of the two men is much the same but Trump’s construction will probably be even worse.

Latest piece out. This week has been a reality check for so many who have lied and pretended things were true which were not. Here are 10 key points that need to be accepted on Trump and US foreign policy, to understand where we have been--and are going. phillipspobrien.substack.com/p/time-for-a...

Key point: The news is not Putin trying to subvert “the West”: Brexit, AfD, Le Pen, Orban, everything remotely right wing he supported. The news is that the U.S. have turned. There is no “West” anymore. There is a fragile island of liberal democracies in Europe encircled by autocracies.
Latest piece. The discussion of a possible Russian escalation against European NATO often misses the main point that it indicates. It is not about Europe, it is about the USA. phillipspobrien.substack.com/p/the-key-po...

This coin is illegal. The laws of our Congress specifically ban coinage depicting a living president (31 U.S. Code § 5112). What better metaphor could there be for the numb shattering of our constitutional order, than a $1 coin being sold to the American people for $10?
Where should I post this? Considering that ⅓ of politicians everywhere seem to support Soviet-style dictatorships, and another ⅓ desire something worse. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/21/o...
