For me, every morning typically begins with my brain serenading me to some random song stuck on repeat until I roll my ass out of bed. There’s no rhyme or reason for a particular song choice. Today’s musical selection? “Soap” by Melanie Martinez.

I don’t generally go for flavored whiskey, but this stuff is just amazeballs. I wish I’d bought more than one bottle.

There’s something weirdly satisfying about restoring the cutting bevel on a blade and honing it to shaving perfection. Same for my bench chisels and plane blades. Just cathartic after a stress-filled and noisy day.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

It's really remarkable how in race after race, Republicans are saddled with the worst candidates imaginable - Paxton, Whatley, Husted, Rogers, Marshall, Moody, M. Collins, Graham... Some of them may win, but my god what a collection of losers, crooks, and dumbasses

Had the wrong meme. Anyway -- Almost everyone is born with a spine. It takes a special talent to lose one. Those who've lost theirs don't see it as a problem because they benefited from the transaction. They aren't gonna grow a new one. Best you can do is vote them out. Every. Single. One.

Adam Kinzinger@adamkinzinger.substack.com

I don’t care how conservative you are. Abandoning Ukraine to Putin spits on everything Reagan stood for. Tax cuts and party loyalty cannot excuse this betrayal. If your principles mean anything, this alone should cost Trump your support. Grow a spine. Some things matter more than the GOP.

LOL. What did people think was gonna happen?

This is why it's necessary to constantly reiterate that Russia is NO ONE'S friend. This isn't some leftover sentiment from the cold war era. It's based fully on their current activity. Now. Today. And it's why the US should be emphatically supporting Ukraine, not stabbing them in the back.

We’ve been talking about this for years. None of these far-right movements are organic.

One of the most annoying things about having complex migraines is the weird aura that often accompanies them. Today, I get to start out with my left eye being ever-so-slightly out of focus. Thankfully, no starbursts, but still. Annoying AF.

This is what I imagine his fellow Senators doing to the current Mitch McConnell before any votes in the Senate.

He's a fucking coward and an embarrassment to NC. Honestly. No spine, whatsoever. About as milquetoast and mealymouthed a politician as has ever come out of NC. Glad to see his ass getting replaced by Cooper.

Thom Tillis voted to confirm these people. Now he wants credit for telling us how terrible they are. And oh so conveniently, Thom Tillis has a new book to sell. Spare us.

Samuel Alito: We won't overturn Obergefell because it's engendered reliance interests. Jan Crawford: Well, many people had organized their lives around Roe v. Wade. Alito: No, they didn't. Women merely had an "abstract" interest in "ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in."

Sitting in a surgical outpatient facility while my wife has a procedure done, and the speakers are playing a solo piano cover of ABCDEFU by Gayle.

An ongoing task I've been working on is getting my garage / shop organized. I'm amazed at just how many "small parts" I've accumulated over the years, all stored in various containers, now being consolidated into stackable bins. It's a thing I've been putting off and finally have motivation to do.

I like how SecDef Kegsbreath just disqualified himself from office with the "No Weirdos" declaration. Not a lick of self-awareness, ISTG.

Hegseth: "It's worth saying again so the fake news understands it. We are no longer the woke department or the weak department. Simple translation of that -- no fatties no trannies no beardos no weirdos no wimps no radicals. Just warriors."

You know what. The first politician that can guarantee me they'll pass a bill that blocks every single politician, pac or superpac from unsolicited text messages OF ANY KIND will get my vote. Fuck every one of you out-of-state motherfuckers spamming my phone with "urgent" pleas for cash.

Trump's entire persona only exists because of fake news. The only genuine thing about Trump is his narcissism and his transactional nature. Every other single thing about him in the public sphere is fake. He drank his own kool-aid, but didn't do us the honor of dying first.

Reading has become an endangered species. Which is half the problem with American political life. Maybe more than half. If you can't read, you can't think. Then you can fall for anything. The idea, for instance, that the truth is fake news.

Telling my agents to stop testing until we finish exploring was a big improvement. Tests are cheap now so I figured it wouldn’t hurt, but the iteration drag was killing me.

This article was highlighted in an email from NYT this morning. www.nytimes.com/interactive/... I read some of these responses and I think: All politics is local. Republicans have had 1 party control of your state for 29 years. If shit is bad, it seems obvious who shoulders the blame, yeah?

The whole "To iced coffee or not to iced coffee" debate has been hilarious to me. I've been interviewing candidates, either solo or on committee, for 20 years. Before every in person interview at every job I've worked, we've offered coffee, tea, water to the candidate before the interview.

Never, in 20 years, have I ever seen an otherwise qualified and culture-matched candidate rejected because they brought their own beverage. Not even by the older boomers who used to be the final say. If, as an interviewer, you are that hung up on hydration...well friend, that's a YOU problem.

The fastest way to get the feds to place a federal pause on data centers would be having one of OpenAI’s “experiments” hack World Liberty Financial and the Trump Organization. Bet we’d see a switch flip overnight.

Bible thumpers are so tiresome, man. Especially southern evangelical bible thumpers. Nothing like getting called a liar, atheist, drunk, and telling me I'm bound to hell forever. On a public street. Where's all that "Judge not, that ye be not judged" that's in that book you cling to?

I know it's a tired meme at this point...but as a kid, I legit had a box turtle that made this *exact* same face. The eyes were less dead, of course...but the same blank, mouth-breathing expression...as if it were clueless as to where it was.

These people are so thick. That is LITERALLY the Republican platform. "The government is the problem. Hire us to fix it." -- Then, they break the government. When campaign season starts, "The government is the problem, Hire us to fix it." Do they even hear themselves?

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin: "The only way you can take a republic country like the United States and turn it into a communist country is by causing chaos on purpose and then saying, 'hey look, government is a mess. You need us, the communist country, to rule you.' It's insane."
