I’ve dealt with several thousand cyber incidents over the past 5 years, and currently lead a global emerging threat team. Amount of those being GenAI incidents: zero. Amount being foundational causes: every single one.

I get there's lots of AI buzz, but companies *still* aren't doing basic cybersecurity stuff. That's what's mostly causing major hacks and lapses of late. Plus: Govs rolling out age-verification and private co's expanding KYC should think again. Exposed IDs undermine these already-crap systems.

Breakup with dogs is extra special. It’s so wet and muddy all the time. In my kitchen. (For non-Alaskans, in the Interior we have the following seasons/transitions: —Winter —Breakup, when stuff melts out —Green-up, the 24 hours when all the trees leaf out —summer/construction —freeze-up)

As someone who wears a Santa hat all through December, was in NYC during SantaCon, and saw many restaurants with “No Santas Allowed” signs, I feel like I have a claim.

For the love of all that is holy, could product companies please put the name of their product somewhere obvious on the product. I assure you I didn’t know the name of the vacuum the day I bought it, let alone 2 years later when I’m trying to buy parts.

This isn't mine, and I can't definitively find the original source. But I love this little bit of wisdom: "If you're a fifteen-minute walk from a coffee shop, but the server there has to drive an hour to get to work, you don't live in a walkable city. You live in a theme park."

For all the fearmongering about capital flight from New York City, there’s an exodus few want to talk about: working people.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.
That’s what we have to change.

When I toured Cornell looking at schools as a kid, I passed Sagan’s office. All the other faculty had name plates you could slide in and out on the door, but Sagan’s was screwed in. I asked why. Apparently the name plate was stolen so often he had a box of spares. And then they “fixed” it for good

Goodnight, friends. Read Carl Sagan.

It’s almost time to say farewell to the MetroCard and to 2025. But where do you go when the swipes go out? Tap and ride on your way to the Garden for Phish’s annual NYE run and listen up for Trey’s announcements in the subway system on your way there!

What, and I can’t overstate this, the fuck.

As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

For the love of all that is holy, how do people use Windows as a daily OS. Every time I open a Windows laptop I want to jettison it into space (and no, I’m not updating a fleet of Surfaces right now)

Mercedes has confirmed George Kurtz, CEO of Crowdstrike, has become Technology Advisor to the team, having become part of its ownership structure. Krutz has acquired 15 percent of Toto Wolff's holding company, which owns 33 percent of the Mercedes #F1 team.

This is generally why I don’t play games more complicated than TF2. If I don’t play for a couple days I have NO CLUE what I was doing. I liked Zelda a lot, but even that I couldn’t figure out what the objectives were (or how to find them) after I put it down for a week.

What’s in a log, or rather what’s not in a log? Bruce talks his thoughts on a recent report by Unit 42 on the use of AzureHound by threat actors, and how logs failed to showcase the full extent of the attack.

It’s amusing to me that ppl are grumpy that talking to the new version of the magic box requires different words than the last version of the magic box. We are early days in all this. Expect very little consistency as we move forward. Embrace the chaos :)

Welp, we’ve got a Bluesky account now. If you’re into SaaS security operations or trialing our SIEM for your SaaS infrastructure, check us out. We’re building new things every day with our service dashboards working their way to prod in the next week :) Also, a follow would be appreciated.

I really need an old logo for the Joint Task Force - Computer Network Operations (JTF-CNO) which was formed out of the JTF-CND in 2000 and later morphed into US Cyber Command. The original logo for this org seems to have disappeared from the Internet. Any help?

From my perspective, this is a transparent attempt to put Copilot at the middle of the Office offering so it's not a "feature you can opt out of."

Jake Williams@malwarejake.bsky.social

It is frankly obnoxious that portal.office.com now redirects to a Copilot page with no direct link to Outlook, Word, etc. (you know, Office...).
