“If we long to believe that the stars rise and set for us, that we are the reason there is a Universe, does science do us a disservice in deflating our conceits?” ― Carl Sagan

When will me stop this madness. There is no legitimate need for these weapons. If not for that armed citizen who followed into school and confronted it could have been much worse

I had a lot of fun chatting with the internet about some research I've done, and getting some support for my upcoming trip to Pasadena for the @americanaerosol.bsky.social conference at the end of the month, even with the audio drift and technical difficulties. We live in such interesting times...

This is as treasonous as it gets

This is completely outrageous and disgusting. This must immediately be blocked by Congress and Trump should be impeached for this. The US is now funding Putin’s war machine as he murders civilians including children. We are lost as a country.

Another update to this figure... showing all 11 track forecast cones for #Isaias as of Friday morning. There's a very focused 75-mile stretch of coastline that has been inside every cone so far. Landfall will be very near Pensacola FL around midnight tonight.

The Wednesday morning update from the 1000-member Google Deepmind ensemble shows a tight clustering of tracks at the Gulf coast, though notably almost all east of the official NHC forecast. That is because the conventional physics-based models are generally further west, so NHC splits the difference

The official forecast from early Wednesday morning brings #Isaias up to a borderline Category 2-3 hurricane in the central Gulf, then shows some weakening prior to landfall overnight on Friday, likely between New Orleans LA and Panama City FL.

The whole point of science is that most of it is uncertain. That's why science is exciting--because we don't know. Science is all about things we don't understand. The public, of course, imagines science is just a set of facts. But it's not. - Freeman Dyson (2014)
