For context (a thread!): I left media in 2022 after more than 18 years in freelance/staff newsroom roles, working primarily as a critic, feature writer, business analyst, editor, and reporter. Heaviest focus areas included games, consumer tech, film/TV, geek culture, and web culture.

Y'all, Dressmaker works with a USB foot pedal! It is SO on. This is the best thing to happen for immersive gaming experiences since the Ace Combat VR mod.

Hi! Yup :) One person on our team also managed to map the sew and speed to fully control the scene <3

making games so you can hopefully afford to make more games is literally a different industry from grinding up people so number goes up and it is harmful to pretend otherwise regardless of whether or not we share a platform or a binary format

China’s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend. By contrast, the scrappy ‘Niu Lai’ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago. www.cartoonbrew.com/box-office-r...

I loved chatting with Jacob at Game-a-Palooza earlier this month. This preview provides additional insight into our design philosophy and gives you a new peek behind the curtain about our use of full motion video!

I previewed The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham from @causewaystudios.com at Game-A-Palooza in Brooklyn. I've been super interested in this game and was not disappointed! www.superjumpmagazine.com/previewing-t...

Yessssss. How timely, I just watched this for the first time a few days ago. Kickass home invasion thriller with fun twists and more comedy than you'd probably expect going in.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

I understand Switch 2 is still pretty new but this is a psychotic price to charge for two games that have both been sold on sale on other platforms for under $3 apiece

Holy shit, this is incredible. Let this be a lesson to all the clowns working so hard to suppress voting all around the world: You're going to fail. Miserably. There are more of us who care about this planet and the people living on it than there are ghouls like you. Get fucked, fascists.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

In a win for preservation, Adam Wingard's early film Pop Skull (released in '07 but shot in '03) is available to stream online if you do a little (VERY little) poking around. I've only seen it float around on high-priced used DVDs. Anyway, I watched it tonight. Wild ride.

It's messy; formally all over the place and semi-coherent, narratively. Low-budget for sure, but I'd also place it in an "experimental" frame. Most importantly, it's filled with moments and sequences that show where this guy who went on to do some really cool horror/thrillers started, creatively.

Who else is going to put "Penguin Colony" on their Hugo Awards ballot for Best Game next year? Anti-colonial take on The Mountains of Madness that's basically Penguins vs. Nazi Cthulhu. It does seem like a lot of people I know would be into this.

The number of "lol look at this crazy balloon you can use to escape" videos I'm seeing about Call of Duty's DMZ mode tells me that we're living in a world where people no longer know or care about Metal Gear and I'm just not sure how I feel about that.

When there aren't any other real players on the track racing games are just going in circles to me. (I do enjoy Forza's "Drivatars" for laughs but the Horizon games have other strengths, too.) Point being, I like the narrative ambition of Galactic Racer but it hasn't otherwise clicked.

It’s so iconic that we don’t think about it now, but consider Michael Crichton’s brilliance at naming the location in his book “Jurassic Park.” It could’ve been Dino Land or Fossiltopia or any number of things, but he chose something that has impeccable brain feel.

I forgot to re-up this for the morning crowd. What a cool and unique game.

I just had a whole night disappear into Dressmaker, great stuff. Love a game that constantly surprises me with new approaches to mechanics. This reminds me a little of the miniature painting (not the turn-based tactics) in that Unknown Worlds game, Moonbreaker. You can get really deep on design!

This game was also instrumental in getting me fully on board with deck-builders EVEN THOUGH it's really more of a puzzle game that speaks in the language of deck-builders (and escape rooms and just generally weird VHS-era psychedelia)
