(i saw the typo before hitting "send". I'm in an anti-normie mood. I hit send just to spite you specifically.)

When a crossword contains an athlete's name is fine, not everything has to be about me all the time and I can just figure out the name by figuring out the other clues but when it contains two intersecting names that's just cruel.

Also, studies show that when we improve a space or system for the disabled, the benefits actually spread to everyone. You’re not just helping yourself later; you’re helping yourself right now.

Reagan believes permitting RVs will magically give people the ability to afford an RV.

Amy Sundberg@amysundberg.bsky.social

This afternoon the Seattle City Council will be voting on the RV permitting program that is designed to ultimately ban RVs from Seattle streets. King County CM Reagan Dunn is worried this will push people living in RVs into unincorporated King County and is introducing his own legislation in KC.

Unhoused folks I know living in RVs have such a hard time finding safe parking sites. We can’t just ban them, we have to create spaces for them. They are also often the ones most ready to transition back into jobs and permanent housing because of the stability provided by having an RV as shelter.

the other thing is that conservatives resolutely do not see the purpose of education as providing social mobility but as reifying and deepening existing inequalities of status. they are as hostile to low income students getting admission to elite institutions as they are black ones.

beyond not understanding that you retain a benefit — growing equity — that justifies continued taxation, what is happening is that these people don’t understand that their mortgage payment included a property tax payment that went into escrow. that, and simple selfishness, is what’s happening here.

The generation that got to buy cheap houses thanks to a postwar construction boom, then blocked new housing construction to juice their asset values is now whining that they have to pay taxes on their unearned wealth. Just breathtaking selfishness.

Got my ballot in the mail yesterday, voted using the @electioncheatsheet.org last night, and dropped my ballot off at the nearest drop box this morning. Voting should be this easy for everyone.

Ballots will be dropping in your mailboxes this week! We’ve completed incorporating and hand-checking the endorsements of all but a handful of our endorsing organizations, and we’ve improved our site for you.

for reference, in the Dobbs opinion, Alito was like, women generally don't _plan_ to get an abortion, so how could they have a reliance interest in abortion? which is kind of an extension of 'you want health insurance? what, you plan on being sick?'

I see people putting AI in the same bucket as NFTs (speculative technology that will go away when the bubble pops), but I think the internet is the better comp. Sure there's some early bubble-y activity, but the underlying technology is real it's going to dramatically change things.

I keep expecting AI progress to plateau, but with the opus 5.5 release it seems clear that is not happening.

Today, I see angry young men online LARPing as Catholics, often for the aesthetic. They celebrate strength and hate the weak. The use slurs against the disabled and fantasize about enacting Crusader violence against their enemies. I wish the Pope would speak directly on this.

The GOP cut funding to the IRS because *audits work* and they fundamentally don't believe rich people should have to play by the rules.

One day I hope to convince conservatives that we should enforce the rule of law, reduce the deficit, and not carelessly tear down the institutions prior generations built, but today is not that day.
