80 years ago, on August 6, 1945, the United States committed one of the most atrocious crimes in human history and plunged the world into a nuclear dark age. It dropped nuclear weapons on Hiroshima, Japan and mass murdered an estimated 70,000 to 140,000 people, mostly civilians, instantly.

The brilliant @pauloffit.bsky.social breaks down the science and safety of thimerosal and aluminum salts in vaccines, as well as the far-reaching impacts of the CDC’s communication failure around thimerosal’s actual vs perceived risk. Could happen next with aluminum. Well worth a read.

open.substack.comMercury RisingA CDC Advisory Committee just made the same mistake it did 25 years ago. And it’s only the beginning.

For decades, access to prescription drugs has been limited by profit-seeking PBMs who drive up costs for Illinoisans and force pharmacies to close. We took bipartisan action this session to protect consumers and save our local pharmacies from being driven out of our communities.

It's no surprise that folks are coming to the Middle of Everything to experience all that we have to offer, including in Southern Illinois. With record tourism growth year after year under my administration, we're not letting up now.

Stop travelling to America. It’s not safe & your tourist dollars shouldn’t support fascism If you’re American, stop going to Florida They built a concentration camp in 8 days They’ve opted to kidnap and detain thousands instead of housing the homeless, feeding the hungry & providing healthcare

Illinois has officially ended the fiscal year with nearly $54 billion in revenue — the most the state has ever collected in a single year. We've exceeded initial projections thanks to responsible fiscal management that prioritizes Illinoisans.

To the “I voted for this” crowd: You voted for the guy who gutted the National Weather Service. Now we’ve got dead families and missing kids in Texas, because storm warnings didn’t go out in time. And he gutted FEMA so they can’t properly respond to disasters. That’s what you voted for?

This is bullshit. Not only do ICE bounty hunters refuse to identify themselves, they won’t say where they’re taking the people they’re kidnapping. Deliberately shuffling detainees from facility to facility so families can’t find them & they miss their chance at legal counsel. (Anaheim, CA)

the big questions for american democracy going forward seem to be (1) can the GOP actually build the federal police state they just funded, (2) in time to finish before democratic checks can be established, and (3) whether dems gaining power would actually try to stop/dismantle it

I'm not shocked that a 79 year old bigot uses the term "Shylock" I am shocked that people who should know better have repeatedly treated his denunciations of anti-Semitism as anything other than the cruel, cynical ploys that they are.

I'm no economist, but what June's job numbers tell me is that America is headed for a great big recession. And we'll be incredibly fortunate if it stops there and we don't end up with Hooverville's popping up in red states all over the country by this time next year. White America:

We may be living through America's last gasps, but it didn't have to be this way. The only reason—ONLY reason—this isn't America's finest hour is because the white American electorate won't stop handing the reins of power to Republicans who hate everyone who isn't a cishet white Christian.

To vote for this bill is to vote to starve and kill Americans, and to saddle those who survive with a mountain of debt and a hotter globe. That is a policy choice. And everyone who votes yes owns that choice.

Lisa Murkowski was the deciding vote for a bill she knew was bad, abdicated her responsibility for fixing it, hoping the House would alter it.... only for the House to pass the bill she crafted without any changes.

They don't care if we die as a result of a miscarriage. Miscarrying just means we're not good enough to be incubators in the first place, so they literally have no use for us. That's not hyperbole. They see The Handmaid's Tale as aspirational.

Our analysis, which shows that more women nearly bled to death during miscarriage after Texas banned abortion, adds to a growing body of reporting revealing that maternal outcomes have gotten worse under bans.

The most sobering part about becoming 1930’s Germany is realizing that no one is going to come here and liberate those being brutalized. If this historically inhumane regime is going to be overthrown, We The American People are going to have to do it.

What do you even say at this point? This isn't just some random account. She did debate prep for the current president. She advised him to fire half the National Security Council. She visits the Oval Office frequently. This is our government.

1) it was always fascism and fascism was the right word to use 2) they are building concentration camps and concentration camps are the right words to use 3) they are banning books and book bans is a fine way to describe the myriad ways they are banning them
