my take is if you introduce your kids to HP you are saying YOU, my child, will one day have to experience the grief and shame of having supported this, and YOU can do the work of removing HP from your life, because i was not willing to do that work. and that’s deeply, deeply selfish.
look, "buying used copies to read to my children" is nice, in theory. but if you're willing to put your blinders on to purchase a terrible book series for your children, we both know you're not going to stop there. in 3 months they'll be watching the show and in 6 they'll be at Harry Potter Land.
i loved coyote vs acme!!
i got to watch it in a theatre sitting between a giggling 7yo and an actual lawyer (which could not have been more perfect)
but if you need to go with people of different ages or professions i bet you will still have a great time.
Live report from the Minnesota State Fair, located in the heart of American democracy, where there’s an ICE Out adaptation of Picasso’s Guernica made entirely from crops
anyway this would finally close the books on my weird childhood obsession with the 1988 hungarian (?) animated film FELIX THE CAT where he had to rescue a medieval babe from a wizard that kind of looked like Mysterio (???)
i have also never watched any episodes of supernatural but it is the hyper fixation of several friends (you know how it is) so i know enough about the show that i laughed until i cried
apparently one of the major plot points of the actual finale i thought i knew appears to be something from *this* instead
so i’m pretty sure i *dont* know what happened in the actual finally, bc clearly i replaced whatever i have in my brain with….this
My local video store was called Video Kingdom, it looked exactly like a regular video store but had a full suit of armor by the counter and all the kids movies were in separate section that was inside a big wooden castle. It is hella closed now but I pledge my sword forever to Video Kingdom.
Canon Shannon Event: my mom got a JOB at Video Kingdom when I was in middle school, which meant I got free video rentals and our home movie library was full of screener copies of movies that they gave her, which means I have watched pretty much every movie that came out between 1997-2003
This book is so complicated. I feel like I get a lot of cultural osmosis about it being a romance, and the romance is very memorable, but this whole thing is about a whole network of families navigating a Missing Stair abuser conundrum.
a VERY drunk woman at karaoke grabbed my shoulder and said “HEATHER! I GOT THE JOB!!”
i, a person who does not know this woman and am not named heather, hugged her and said “oh my god im so proud of you!! you deserve it!!!”
congrats to her, who we then gave two glasses of water and walked her home.
bi-annual reminder that if your response to an area experiencing extreme, unprecedented weather is “where i live, this happens all the time and we handle it fine!” that is not solidarity, it just makes you sound like a dumb asshole
In 2014, Évelyne Dhéliat’s from TF1, me, and a dozen other weather presenters from around the world were commissioned by @wmo-global.bsky.social to do the weather how we thought it would be in 2050. Turns out we were way too optimistic. Here’s the actual forecast for tomorrow’s highs in France.
It will never stop being funny to me that the street fighter subreddit has a much better, well reasoned ai policy vis a vis literally all universities.
if you saw Backrooms and thought “i love Chiwetel Ejiofor and i wish he did more projects where he was driven mad by liminal spaces” may I suggest the audiobook of Susanna Clarke’s Piranesi
When you see the story
about how the world
now has its first trillionaire,
and when you see the story
about how laboratories
in Congo have run out
of supplies to test for Ebola,
it is important to understand
that in many ways
these are the same story.
if you like mushroom horror and are ok with body horror and sex in books, you might read and enjoy this one.
but we (points at you, points at me) must never speak of this book.
if you see me give it five stars, no you didn’t. mind your business.

I find it moving that Lynch's legacy in the queer community is now forever tied to the phrase "fix your hearts or die". It has become a rallying cry. It is bigger than him. It is bigger than Twin Peaks. It is beautiful.
the worst people on the planet have hello kitty avatars and @s like yummycrumbly but DETESTABLEPERVERT666 would probably pull me out of a burning building
