It seems to me the BC Greens now have four years to start building on the good feeling from this election — building riding associations, attracting some high-profile potential candidates, increasing profile, etc.

Meanwhile, pro-democracy, pro-Europe protesters in Tbilisi, Georgia, are tonight nearing their 700th consecutive day of protest against the pro-Russian government. They haven't missed a single day in the last 23 months.

It's a little easier to feel good about the state of the world today based on election results from Brazil (Lula re-elected) and Serbia (Vučić defeated by a student-driven opposition).

This is spectacular news.

Day 1 after the Conservatives won a super majority: white nationalists gathering across the street from the BC legislature. Gonna be a long and hard 4 years. Take care of each other, friends. Don't stop fighting back and standing up for what's right, but take care of yourselves and each other first.

It's not too dicey to predict that at some point in the next few years, there will be large public protests against the actions of the Conservative government. The size of the majority MIGHT keep the more rabid elements at bay, but there is still enough nastiness there to enrage many.

For many ... it seems reassuring that a machine can in theory predict anything. Yes, but ... that means forgetting ... what is peculiar to life is ... it's tied up in the ... entanglement of the past, present and future, which is no way programmable. -- Miguel Benasayag, The Tyranny of Algorithms

I won't believe in the concept of AI as a conscious being until an AI can be startled by a sunset, a vista, a scrap of music that causes it to shed real tears of happiness.

Polls are always grain-of-salt worthy, but an Ipsos poll that shows the B.C. Greens at 13 per cent (up from their usual 5-10 per cent) is nice to see.

I have the feeling tech bozos won't learn to do right things until they start being jailed. (Also, as the electoral court has ruled evidence supports the claim, how is it still "alleged" in the headline, NBC?)

Finding that the evidence supports Lula's claims that Mark Zuckerberg is consciously attempting to rig the Brazilian elections in favor of Bolsonaro, a Brazilian court urgently requires Meta to undo its offending logarithms and insure equal access to Lula. www.nbcnews.com/world/south-...

With climate change largely absent from the leaders’ debate and voters focused on the cost of living, B.C.’s main parties are giving environmental policy little airtime. Experts warn sidelining the climate crisis could carry long-term economic and health costs. #bcpoli

thenarwhal.caClimate issues are taking a back seat in B.C.’s electionThe NDP offers nothing new. The Conservatives aren’t talking. And the Greens are climate-focused but unlikely to form B.C.’s next government

And yet, not a single question about climate change or the environment in tonight's B.C. election leaders debate.

Emily Lowan, B.C.'s. young Green leader (26), is doing a fairly good job in this provincial election debate despite some fairly obvious nervousness. #bcpoli

Today the Premier revealed his environmental platform: re-announcing a marine plan signed two years ago, a land target from 2023 and a data centre power cap that’s already in force. What he didn’t say, is that his own government admits B.C. will miss its climate targets.

Does anyone else have the feeling, based on only the last couple of weeks, that the U.S. is rapidly approaching the point where it will take a very long time to recover nationally and internationally from what Trump has wrought?

I have just spent the evening watching the new documentary Who is Martin Mull? For someone of my age, it is a brilliant look back; for people of all ages, it is a wonderfully done look at an artist's live well lived. I highly recommend it.

First Nations along the 'Pacific Link' pipeline route are speaking out about the lack of consultation by the Carney government over the project now designated in the national interest. One is pondering legal action. www.aptnnews.ca?p=295352

This whole thread is disquieting. It’s pretty much an all-out abandonment of what Carney has said about climate change and pipelines in the past.

Jimmy Thomson@jameswsthomson.com

Carney begins his announcement of a new oil pipeline by acknowledging the climate-linked wildfire that came close to levelling the town where he's announcing the new oil pipeline. A flat circle.

If this is true, I'm totally done with Carney and the Liberals.

LNG Canada Phase 2 would double output to 30 million tonnes a year, while global gas demand falls and a glut approaches. And they want to expand before proving Phase 1 is safe: its flaring already exceeds B.C. permits. Real leadership means scaling up clean energy, not doubling down fracked gas.
