If they add predatory 2026 progression mechanics to Deadlock I'm gonna be so fucked, free time eradicated

The shit it takes to make cursor lock work in a windows appcontainer

I really didn't expect the immediate impact of AI on me to be "every single person on the planet with a PC and a shitty idea can now make it within half an hour" instead of "flood of bullshit PRs that I have to sift through" as everyone told me would happen

There's a voice inside me that wants to respond to this kinda thing by gatekeeping more and I can see why other people choose to, but I can't help but feel that it's too late for that now

Also it sucks and everything of note I achieved in my life I have by explicitly not gatekeeping and relying on other people not gatekeeping, so that's a bummer, I feel like other folks deserve that and might not get the chance

I'm sick and I keep having this dream where I sit next to Lenny from the Simpsons on a flight, and I go "Not Lenny!!" and then he gets upset because apparently everyone says that when they spot him in public

The mechanism is only really designed for developers to retract faulty versions of plugins that cause crashes. Using it for anything more than that would not amount to anything more than virtue signaling, in our opinion, and lock us into a cat and mouse game.

It's a hard call to make, but at the moment, we think the harm reduction that would be achieved by doing such a block would effectively amount to nothing, while setting a dangerous precedent for the way we interact with the custom repository ecosystem.

We posted a small update on account IDs and "character database" plugins: dalamud.dev/news/2026/07... Sadly, it still boils down to "this sucks, we sadly can't do anything about it". Will do my best to answer questions in replies.

dalamud.devAn Update on Account IDs | DalamudHello everyone. We’ve received a number of comments and concerns about a custom repository plugin that collects and tracks players via their Character IDs and Account IDs. In the past, we’ve published...

If you follow plugin development, you probably know that we have a rudimentary system to "block" plugins. We have never used it to block rule-breaking plugins, for a few reasons: You can easily disable it, it would probably be 20 minutes of work to make an "unlocked" Dalamud distribution.

This is exactly what happened with the Chinese version of Dalamud (maintained by a separate team). Someone already threatened to do this to us when we introduced new rules for AI-generated plugins!

It's annoying to write a post like this, since safety is really important to us, but it's sadly out of our hands at the moment. Let's hope that we will get a proper fix soon!

Something that is completely foreign to me but seems to be common for older people like my parents is that tech "breaks". Their original Google TV from 4 years ago became unusable (updates, ads? key presses took 20 seconds to react) and they just said it was "broken" and bought a newer one.

They don't feel like they were ripped off, same with their phones. It makes sense in a way, they don't want to bother with a new thing and they are so cheap, it doesn't matter, but it feels odd to me because I know tech doesn't wear out in that way usually, people just make it shitty.

[REPOSTS APPRECIATED] Hi, I'm Khayle, a plugin developer for FFXIV (XIVCombo (Expanded), soon Chat Bubbles 2, & more!) I am again facing the risk of getting expelled from my appartment I need to gather a total of 3000€ by 31/07. I am still waiting for the approval of my disability social income.

Do NOT get the McSpritz Sakura × Sprite™ Limited Edition collab. It's not worth it

Time for the bimonthly "I closed VS because something broke, and it started auto-updating, and broke even further and now I have to restart my PC and roll back and and have it delete all my extensions and restart it again" maneuver

Happy pride! I'm gay and weird but I usually don't talk about it a lot. I love seeing other people getting to be gay and weird though, which is a little harder than it should be nowadays, so please support your local lgbt associations if you can, they need it!

This place doesn't have polls, but I would love to do an informal poll for plugin devs around churn. Is bumping your plugin once per major patch (4-5 months) too often for you and is it a big concern?

On top of complexity, it would also take a lot of work and time to implement and probably cause some friction initially. My question would be: is it dire enough for us to scope this down into something more manageable? I.e. just managing game and Dalamud API as versions, to reduce breakage.

I think this would hurt a little bit in that it's a lot of unrealized potential, and plugin devs couldn't make use of the capability for versioning their own APIs (and would have to continue messing with IPCs), but it might be worth the tradeoff?

I think it doesn't matter whether or not the app is vibecoded or not at this point, all of the terminally bsky people get so butthurt about the rest of the site insinuating it and immediately go and block and subpost crying about it, there must be some latent insecurity floating around

RIP to my home-soldered SlimeVR trackers (since undergone lithium explosion and money subsequently poured into Kickstarter alternative that may or may not ship)

Shipping programmable background blur for ImGui in Dalamud this week! It's controllable via a slider in the style editor, and has controls for grain noise, tint and luminosity adjustment (though those are not exposed yet, only for other devs)

This was fun! Turns out we weren't the only ones with this idea but I think we did a good job of it (even though it was pretty short notice again, oops)

For what it's worth, I really enjoyed a lot of our previous April Fools, where our user base was still small enough that we could get away with it. Also featuring @notnite.com funnily enough. Thought I'd post this here while I'm at it since it's all lost over on The Bad Place™️

Bonus content: Tippy wallpaper for anyone that was around back then and all of the horse-themed plugin icons we did for 2024!

We used to be more bold with these, but something I've learned over the years is that this isn't really something users think about when they start their game and just want to play. A lot of people just get confused when something changes and they can't attribute it, and I guess that isn't so fun.

Not that this one was entirely without controversy, I think it's a hot topic at the moment, sorry to anyone that was caught off guard!

You are up to date.
