my hobby: calling it lost media when a streamer's camera or gameplay feed cuts out for a couple of minutes during a stream

every time i see a screenshot of a phone notification from a news app all i can wonder is what the hell is wrong with you why would you enable push notifications for news why would you do this to yourself

played about an hour of belmont's curse so far, seems pretty good! i'm not having the latency issues which i've seen a few reports of now. the game feels less like dead cells than i was fearing. think i'm digging it more than rogue prince of persia. still very looking forward to bloodstained 2.

Richard B. Gray - LEVELORD 11/15/1957 - 10/12/2026 Just heard the news that an old friend of mine has passed on. Richard Gray - aka Levelord has departed the planet. I know he's dealt with cancer on and off for awhile now, a word that I cannot stand. Word comes from his wife Olga.

happy to see QC get its big farewell update too. quake champions was always my favorite quake gameplay wise. i'm also proud to say i came up with the name (and pushed against calling it quake world haha) and the design of athena's hook was my one big brained game designer moment!

Quake Champions has received what will most likely be its final update. All champions unlocked, all battle passes and microtransactions removed, quality of life updates & more. Rest easy, Quake Champions. Despite everything you were still pretty cool in my eyes store.steampowered.com/news/app/611...

for all the complaining about characters and ultimates, the secret of quake champions is it's just an evolution of the holdables in q3 and the runes in team arena. QC started off as a prototype in quake live where we just redistributed those pickups to characters, and gave them physics changes.

if the full game never got off the ground, we were gonna release it as a big quake live update, but fortunately it did! the quake live prototype is a lot closer to the final design than you'd think, although ranger just had basically a big jump instead of an orb. but anarki was basically 1:1.

lol i'd occasionally userbenchmark's comparisons for CPUs. i was always confused by their rankings and whatever the hell efps means. but recently i noticed this insane FAQ in their footer and its done more to make me realize how bad of a resource they are than if they had just shut up

civvie is great and very kindly chatted with me a bit after I thanked him for what he said about the layoffs after his last vid. his latest video covers dawn of the machine and it’s great to see he is mostly positive about it because MG really outdid themselves with this one

ROMERO: You drew all the bad stuff in there, Adrian never did anything like that. ROMERO: Except for the nice ass on the Cyberdemon.

also it was my feedback that led them to use the quake jump sound for the NIN keychain, you can also thank me for that.

gotta say i was definitely a little bit choked up to see it pop up on steam and then seeing the trailer for the first time. it sucks it had to happen this way, it didn't. these layoffs were completely a choice. but i'm still thankful for all the folks i worked with on this, and i don't have much

negative to say about id and zenimax through all of this. but most of all, don't feel bad for me, but do feel angry for me!

as my joblessness continues, i've now spent like 2 days configuring a new neovim install from scratch. the only way this could get more dire than recompiling the linux kernel with a patch, is if it were emacs instead. but maybe i'll become a weird neovim guy!

The timing of this kind of press is intentional. How are they going to make these games when Bethesda and Obsidian collectively laid off hundreds? Don’t fall for it.

NEW: Bethesda has announced a slew of new Fallout games, including Fallout 5 and Fallout 3 + New Vegas remasters. The company also confirmed my scoop last week that it is working with Obsidian on a Fallout game. I spoke to Todd Howard about the roadmap: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

4 days into not having a job and i'm already reduced to figuring out how to patch and build a linux kernel to fix an audio issue, god this has really hit me hard huh

update: patching the linux kernel actually fixed my issue (i am one of those weirdos using a bc-250 turned into a gaming machine, look it up if you haven't heard of it is weird as hell!)

after almost 16 years my time with id is done as layoffs ravage everyone across the companies. i'm going to be fine money wise, but if you have money to spare, donate it to the game worker hardship fund! uvw-cwa.org/hardship-fun...

there’s probably no better way to wire up this power button to this psu than with a hot glue gun, especially since the e tape didn’t work

this is a better worded version of what i think of this situation, except my thought ends with "fuck the esa"

Statement from VGHF director Frank Cifaldi on the discontinuation of physical PlayStation media, and the closure of the PS3 and PSP digital storefronts.

since i've had two people ask me if i still have a job today, nothing has happened yet AFAICT. i do think it will be bad, but i don't buy the current sets of rumors. if it hits me i should be more than fine for a good long time (esp if union is able to help) so worry for others!

i don't think i'll ever have a professional legacy that anyone beyond me or my friends will know or care about, but if i do, i want it to be the compass in quake 2. i fucking love that thing and how well it worked, and its opt in nature especially as the Yellow Paint Discourse continues.

and if you don't like that running around and getting lost aspect of retro shooters it lets you entirely opt out of it in a way that doesn't at all hurt the people who love it.

i'm so happy with how q2 turned out overall, i think we polished it to a point where the combat feels as good as quake 1 and doom. the original was absolutely a good game but it was my least favorite of id shooters. with the changes we made, it might be #1 or #2 now. if only people made more maps!

it's thematic, it's a future space war, of course you'll have some weird augmented reality thing. sure maybe you should fix the levels but you never will which is how we ended up with the yellow paint. sometimes we're all stupid and its a quick and easy way to just get yourself out of it

trying a new split keyboard, wanted a few more keys and fully wireless, both halves. had trouble finding keycaps that matched this layout, i hate when caps lock is actually ctrl and so on.

found a whole operation of unmanned youtube channels making completely unchecked long form slop videos where the ai voice simulacra regularly trips up & does this for a full ten minutes every time. all the very legit comments are like "NO! THATS NOT TRUE! YOU LIE HE DID NOT" & never acknowledge it.

a game idea for an audience of 4: multiplayer car combat that requires you to have a steering wheel, pedals, and sinden light gun. one hand on wheel, other hand on gun, foot for pedals. it'd be the best car combat game ever made and absolutely nobody would ever get to play it. i want it so bad.

i love/hate when the shorthand for "computer code" in media is "lets just grab some html source" it always sticks out like a sore thumb. just throw some random x86 asm in there!

starting to get an impression that this graham platner fellow might not be entirely on the level!

i'm not sure how much i'm liking the game yet, but holy crap the ui design and general aesthetic in the new marathon is just incredible. just some absolutely bold choices, bright colors, and really going into that kind of 80s vaporwave aesthetic. nothing else like it in AAA games at least
