I’m deleting all social media from my phone on Oct. 1 because I need a break from everything for a bit. If you know me IRL, text me. Otherwise will check DMs when at my desk.

the year is 2030 and i no longer consume anything that isn't personalized to me. every game, every book, every movie extends to the limits of my own imagination and no further. i haven't been surprised in five years. i cry softly, in bewilderment, if i see a word i don't know

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

I’m still not over this scene.

Here to tell you that the chemistry and tension in this scene still hits for 2026 teenagers, as evidenced by the very vocal reactions of my students today

On that note, why are *so* many people so comfortable farming out all cognitive tasks? We are told repeatedly as we age to stay engaged, do puzzles, be creative, etc. to stave off declines in memory and reasoning. I'm just seeing a shitload of people I'd think on board with that saying fuck it.

This is the part I just do not understand watching all these commercials for people asking supposed AI agents to do stuff for them. I can barely hammer out a weekly dinner list with my husband without tearing my hair out (and I LOVE cooking) because there is no chance it would ever understand.

Yes, the precondition for regular AI agent use is changing your culture to speak in middle America white bureaucratic language to make it work. You can’t put “the good collards“ on an optimized shopping list, much less account for what some call familect: www.nytimes.com/2026/09/03/m...

This writer is freaking out that people haven’t heard some pop country song? I probably couldn’t hum a Taylor Swift song. Seriously. Lots of people don’t listen to pop anything.

Flu and second shingles vaccine today. I’ll get my Covid shot when I get my pneumonia one in a couple of weeks. Get your shots people!

Well then. We have been caught up in the Escape from the East Coast airport clusterfuck and I am at the 8:30 pm giant pretzels, fried cheese and booze part of the program. Maybe I’ll get home today?

I am currently at 9 scam loan calls today. And two texts. I am incredibly close to changing my number to have a couple of months of peace. Ugh.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate this little diva? And if anyone in Middle TN needs a cat, please let me know. All but one of our formerly feral porch kitties have turned into the sweetest lap babies. #cats #kittens

Friends, I feel *weary*. T's granny died in the night and my mom's best friend will be going any time now. My inclination is to build a pillow fort and hide. BUT, all these people we have lost and are losing lived big all the way to the end so I'm going to have margaritas and fajitas and twirl.

I know it’s hard to watch all these beautiful things be carried away by time and see the wrong things growing in their place. But listen. Listen. We have to be the beautiful things now. It has to be us. It has to be us. Courage.

Okay, before I climb into a pile of fried okra to drown my sorrows, I just want to tell folks about a thing Dolly did here in TN. Back in 2016, wildfires burned a great deal of Gatlinburg and the surrounding area. Dolly's Foundation The My People Fund gave $1000 a month to 900 impacted families...

REGARDLESS of income for 6 months and they had so many donations come in, they gave them all $5000 the last month. The My People Fund gave 12.5 million to people in need with no questions asked on no means testing. That program has been studied by people working on UBI. And showed the people who...

got it were better off after. So yeah, Dolly has some socialist tendencies. All the people who say rich folks can't help communities or individuals can stuff it. Every morning those assholes wake up and decide NOT to help. Be like Dolly.

every billionaire & tech mogul, they all want to be adored & celebrated without doing the things Dolly did with a fraction of the power & money. What she had, she gave away. I'm sure she was comfortable (& that's good!). But she just relentlessly helped. It's not that difficult. Love. Care. Help. 💚🌸

Well there goes any productivity I may have had for the remainder of the day. Our Lady of Appalachia has left us. I pray for us all.

Folks in the Northeast, please read and signal boost for some cats who need a place to live, quickly.

I do not like summer and late summer in particular because it’s hot, buggy and relentless. But… it is the perfect time of year to make @koshersoul.bsky.social Okra Soup from his fantastic book Recipes From the American South with local veggies and some hot water cornbread.

When it is a conservative person in their 30's doing absolutely horrible things it's "boys will be boys" or "leave that poor girl alone". Bullshit. They are grown people who are evil AF and there is no getting around it. Harp has two degrees and is fully capable of answering for her actions.

I have successfully applied Parasedge to all four porch kittens, including the one who will barely get close to me for long. Please clap. #kittens And they mostly don't hate me now.

My mom owned a hair salon for decades. You do *not* want me giving you a haircut. Well, unless you want a Mohawk, I can totally do that.

Call me crazy, but perhaps being related to a Senator who died doesn’t qualify you to be a Senator.

Progress with Nyx! She can now tolerate my moving a little and making noise while they eat dinner. And during the post dinner petting fest, she stayed just a few feet away purring. I still can’t stand up very close to her, but better than last week! #kittens I wish I could keep them all.

Still no internet! Nothing wrong at the house, so it’s somewhere along the line. I really hope they sort it out before Monday as I do not want to camp at a coffee shop all day. Bleh.
