I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

This kind of small world thing makes me uncomfortable. Sey is a side character in the niche internal politics of the Christian denomination that I used to be part of. It’s weird seeing him in a “Leopards Eating People’s Faces” crossover episode.

Pro-ICE conservative blogger Samuel Sey, a prominent figure on the evangelical right, has himself been arrested and held for potential ICE deportation.

Even if this were viable as a concept (that there's an afterlife; that it allows conversations with others; that enslavers are going the same place as you), who cares? Oh, are you mad at me, Ben Franklin? Tough shit.

My most pro-intellectual property take is that every living member of the Tolkien family should be allowed to just beat this guy with a tire iron.

Once again asking people to remember that the Old Testament God vs. New Testament God thing is a heresy that the Church did away with more than a century before it even addressed Arianism

Christopher Hale@christopherjhale.bsky.social

The U.S. bishops called the Trump administration’s plan to livestream an execution barbaric, and they were right. Pete Hegseth has quoted the Bible publicly more than 120 times since taking office, and not one of those quotes came from Jesus or the New Testament. Why? He doesn’t believe in it.

The Old Testament God, who does not delight in the death of the wicked, executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, is not the God of Pete Hegseth.

A distinct but related Type of Guy is the one that fantasizes about civil war because he wants his semi-auto rifles and accessories to have a purpose outside of being a hobby. This accounts for ~100% of the overlap between gun culture and fascism.

Sky Marchini@sky.skymarchini.net

if you shoot guns enough (I do), you quickly meet this type of guy, who will tell you just how Excited he is for someone to break into his house so he finally has the excuse he needs to dump a mag into them [and this type of guy is unfortunately quite dominant in US gun culture]

A decade ago, this took the form of paranoia about FEMA camps and whatnot, but after Trump won and they decided that the federal government was kind of good, the fantasy shifted toward race war.

This is correct, and it’s not a close call. If he was repeatedly using the N word while demeaning black soldiers, no one to the left of JD Vance would hesitate to say that that’s impeachable.

Dr. Samantha Hancox-Li@sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com

as longtime readers know i am a longtime hegseth hater, but i think bouie is right here to note that hegseth's remark that "trannies" are out of the military is, by itself, an impeachable offense obviously much else besides, but i want to dwell on this

One of my sharpest points of disagreement with Vance is that I think his kids are as American as mine.

I happen to know Byas, and I think he is a very intellectually honest person that reliably approaches discussions in good faith and has reasonably self-consistent, liberal views. I disagree with a few of those positions, but I think some of you should be approaching him with a lot more courtesy.

JD Vance has fully embraced the idea that his own children are less American than their white peers. Somehow, that has only earned Vance a silver medal in “being a bad father because of politics.”

MAGA masculinity means declining to publicly criticize the man your daughter has accused of physical abuse, because doing so might prompt a senile 80-year-old man to write mean things about you.

There will be some evidence that China sought to influence voters via social media or something like that. Trump will lie and say that he found an outcome-determinative number of forged Chinese ballots. His supporters will then claim that he proved the election was stolen.

This seems to be because the white nationalists that his administration is crawling with have lost their shit about Spain regularizing undocumented immigrants. They cannot abide decency and humanity even on another continent.
